I agree in theory, but the alterations are subtle enough that I can withstand them for the sake of that lovely BD transfer. That said, I do think dear ol' Sam needs to step back a bit and stop tampering with the film. Part of the film's charm is its imperfections.

Oooh, do tell.
It's just weird, I mean why bother?
Sometimes it looks decent and some times it's predator.
It's not like the good version isn't in the same set!

No shot are missing, don't know where that came from, but all the changes are rather minor and are nowhere near to the point that i'd consider it to be a 'revisionist release'. They're all there to fix minor errors that had been present in the film (such as a shot being flipped the wrong way, crew member being visible, lens flairs, mattes being not perfectly blended). Nothing new has been added to the film digitally like with Star Wars.
I apologize. Going back and reading the link it seems that I was thinking of the removal of the shot of a lightning strike. Apparently that shot was only removed from the 1999 Elite version and was reinstated on subsequent releases.

Even though Raimi definitely did not go full George Lucas, the current Blu-ray of Evil Dead is quite literally a revisionist version. I wish we had the choice to watch the original on the new UHD since that is the version most of us saw and fell in love with. At least I have the Anchor Bay DVD that supposedly does not have any major changes.

I figured they would of used the Sony UK Blu as a basis for the included Blu since that has most (perhaps all I’m not sure) of the bonus features from the 2010 bonus DVD minus the open-matte presentation.

I hope they get this one right. It's one of those films that needs to keep that grainy low budget look for affect.

So, none of the extras are being ported over aside from the commentary? Bummer.
