I caved and got my first 4K movie in the form of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I guess this will have to be my second. Or third if I cave and buy The Wizard of Oz.

Funny, you bought just ONE title from the Columbia Classics boxset (from eBay, perhaps?) yet have three others in your wishlist. Perhaps you should have just bought the set and then sold A League of Their Own & Jerry Maguire if you really didn't want them.

Yeah I've always looked at it more like a classic 50's Vistavision film than a religious one, it's awesome. The bluray does look quite nice but will be a day 1 for sure.

Same here (atheist as they come) and I agree it's a keeper. One of the great Hollywood epics, period. They truly don't make 'em like this anymore.

Ten Commandments was one of those movies like The Wizard of Oz that we used to watch "religiously" every Thanksgiving back when I was a kid, so my love for it is probably at least 50% nostalgia but I think it's reputation speaks to the fact that I'm not just talking through my hat.

A great, great movie any way you slice it.

P.S. What I really want to know is whether this will include all the cool extras from the Blu-ray set (e.g. the silent version, the feature-length making-of & audio commentary).

Looking forward to this. I hadn't seen it in like 20 years when I bought the blu-ray - I thought it would be hokey and cringeworthy since it's the 50s camp and Charleton Heston. BOY was I wrong - it was 4 hours of awesomeness. (that being said I haven't seen it since, and though the UHD is a day one buy for me, I doubt I'll see it more than 2-3 more times for the rest of my life. 4 hours is looooonnnnnggggg)

Funny story, I used to work with an Egyptian guy who looked just like Yul Brynner. (didn't sound remotely like him though). Of course, whenever he led a project, we'd call him "Pharaoh", Rameses, etc. and whenever he made a decision that required annotation in meeting minutes someone had to say "so let it be written, so let it be done!".

He was a good sport about it, and even enjoyed it (he'd definitely seen the movie as he'd been in the US for like 20+ years), though I'm sure it would wear off if you got it constantly.

Yeah, this. It's a big 50s Hollywood epic, which is awesome for what it is, but viewing it religion cheapens religion, IMO. (especially since I didn't think it was a terribly philosophical movie.......)
