I'd think the "popularity contest" aspect would be removed by including people who almost no one knows outside of the direct film community. It truly is tragic how many people each year are left off of that damn thing, without rhyme or reason as to why.

I forgot to put in my order from La La Land, but with Intrada - now it's just a guessing game when they get their copies and send them out.

I have the Star Trek The Motion Picture expanded version on vinyl which sounds stupendous. Would've loved for Superman The Movie.

I placed my order on 2/24 and received an update 3 days ago that it's awaiting shipping. Things just don't move fast in la la land. I'm not in a hurry to receive the cds but this is getting a little ridiculous.

The title was only open to pre-order on Feb 15, with shipping to begin on Feb 22. La La Land received the the first shipment of them on the afternoon of the 22nd. There were orders for over 3000 of them by then (including wholesale, 1500 retail). I think a large number of those were in the first few hours of pre-ordering. I ordered STM around 11PM PST the 15th and it shipped on Feb 28. I also ordered SII/III just after 12AM Feb 21, and it shipped Feb 22.

And even better on CD with dynamic range and bass vinyl can't touch.

Not to start a vinyl debate but I'll match CD anytime with my analog front-end (Linn Sondek LP12).

I have both the 3 CD Star Trek The Motion Picture and the 2 LP's set from La La Land and on my humble Goldring GR-1 TT with an Audio Technica VM540ML and a clone of an EAR 834 tube Phono preamp the LP's trounce the CD's. Just my 0.02 $.

It's called a placebo.

Put an unmolested 24/96 or 24/192 digital master file on a Blu-ray and listen again. The ultra high res track will destroy the LP as long as your speakers and ancillary equipment aren't crappy.

If you say so...
I'd like La La Land to make Star Trek TMP, E.T. and Superman The Movie available as either BD-Audio discs at their native resolution or High Res digital downloads. CD is not good enough for these soundtracks.
In my opinion both the Star Trek TMP and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 2 LP sets from La La Land sound better than their CD counterparts, but of course this is just a matter of taste. I must say that I like the sound of the inexpensive (250/300 $) Audio Technica VM540ML cart and the EAR834P tube Phono preamp even as clone sounds amazing coupled with the right tubes, and I love the tubes I'm using on it.

I'd happily buy BD-A from LLR. I bought the LOTR re-release just to get the BD-A discs, though the quality on those discs really wasn't representative of what the format can and should be used for, as the results for LOTR were only slightly better or equivalent to the CD releases.

Not sure about E.T., but I think Star Trek TMP went through another remastering specifically for vinyl, which probably took into account the inherent strengths and weaknesses of the format.

Yes, it is technically impossible for a vinyl record to match the fidelity that an uncompressed digital file is capable of reproducing, but there are plenty of variables when it comes to how a source is treated, mixed, and mastered.

Yes, LL tweaks the digital track masters - not the CD masters, but the digital masters before the CD mastered tracks - for vinyl's audio characteristics before releasing their special editions. They call it "remastering for vinyl", so make of that what you will.

I prefer vinyl, but I am glad to see this soundtrack released by La La Land. Any way we can get these fantastic scores is fine by me
