I watched this on my 150" Epson 5040ub setup tonight and it was phenomenal in detail, sound, WCG, and HDR (to the limited point that a projector can do with HDR).

However, there was one scene that almost ruined it for me and it has to be something in my setup because I would think you guys would have been all over this. I have a pretty solid calibration and everything else looked great. So for sanity sake can I get a second opinion on what's going on here and if anyone else is seeing this. I took a crummy picture with my phone and focused on the area in question. While it looks exaggerated in the photo it's actually not far off from what is actually displaying.

You talking about that weird patch of aqua/teal in between Morph and Cyph? (That's what I call em, they don't mind.)

Amazon is out of stock now. Local Best Buy had nothing. The lady I got to price match Ferris Bueller's Day Off knew it was out of stock. I also purchased thesteelbook of The Game. $2 more than the regular blu-ray)

Lots and lots and lots of 4k discs for $15, though. Holy cow is it a good time to get a 2017 TV (maybe a LG C7) and a bunch of discs.

Thanks for the Bullmoose suggestion. I can wait a few days more. Especially as I have both Braveheart and Gladiator to watch from last week's haul.

I think they didn't stock this on purpose. They think it's funny.

As if it wasn't bad enough that the release over here was set for a week after the rest of the world, the release date just vanished from the pre-order page entirely and now it just says "upcoming"...

Current mood:

I thought that color was about the same when dead agents turned back to people. The fake electricity was way overdone and that same hue.

I've only had time to thumb through, so can t comment on that specific scene.

Other than that, my quick run was great. So much looks so perfect. Great release.

I screened JP1 instead. Among the best experiences I've had in my theater.

The Matrix will have its time within a couple weeks, I'm sure.

Yup, that aqua patch between them. On the blu-ray it's just white and looks mostly normal.

Also, I didn't notice it on the first go but the special effect of the real-world laser gun looked really bad when stepped through. Kind of like someone opened it up in MS Paint and went crazy with the spray can. It might be clipping, but, this one looked equally bad on the blu-ray so I chalk that up to aging special effects.

I don't have another 4K player to try the UHD on. Right now, I have a Samsung UBD-K8500. I'm probably going to upgrade to a Panasonic 820 later this year as I heard it has a built-in tone mapping mode for HDR projection.

Could it be your projector just not being able to handle the HDR on those bright screens/laser blasts? Can't really think of anything else, but I dunno much about projectors in general.

Sorry, with the upload size limitations it was hard to make out the details. I zoomed way in on this one.

I think you are right, and it's either the player or the projector not sending/recognizing a 'brighter' white and for whatever reason is rendering it cyan/aqua. It has a very distinct darker outline around it as well. Very strange.

Anyway, I don't have additional equipment to rule anything out so I am stuck with it for now.

I love and hate everyone in this thread
Love - for praising this transfer and getting me extremely excited
Hate - convincing me to pay almost $35 for 1 catalogue release (just got the jurassic park collection for $30)
Damn everyone...i need this disc now! I’m just happy it lived up to expectations. Come to me sexy film like grain!

It sounds as if it should be a very bright white but for some reason on your hardware, something is not being processed properly and it's clipping out of range - it's as if the disc/player thinks your display hardware can handle certain values, so it sends those values, but your hardware can't handle those values, and so it's not being displayed properly - in an RGB model of white, your blue value is displayed at full brightness for a bright white but the red and green values aren't displaying at full brightness for a bright white, hence you're seeing blue.

Why/how this is happening - that I don't know.

You will love it, I’m upgrading to a 65” C8 next month, I’m going to have a stockpile of 4K discs to watch when I get that lol.

My 5040ub has had a weird bug with heavy posterization in parts where the white clips, but I think it should be noticeable in other places too if it is the same, also it only occurred to me when changing the gamma settings, once I went back to the gamma settings it went away.

Glad to hear this one received excellent PQ treatment. Love this movie particularly the soundtrack; this was the movie that got me hooked on Massive Attack and onto trip-hop in general. Hoping for the price to drop a bit more before picking it up but dunno how much longer I can wait.
