If you can somehow convince her that Bill Murray is in fact awesome then you will have achieved a state of marital bliss. Until then, it will elude you

Lol. The fact that movie still lacks a blu-ray release anywhere in the world is a crime.

To keep the thread on track, I skimmed though the BD’s of these today to compare and these have become my favourite set for the format. No contest.
My wife has never been a collector like I am (she had like maybe 20 movies total). While she is a little picky with me upgrading from blu to UHD, she's been awesome overall in terms of buying movies, especially looking for sales. She watches movies with me all the time and sees the value of paying once and then re-watcing them again and again. For her, she would rather I buy the movie than pay $12 - $15 to see it once in the theater not including food and beverages.

In terms of MI, I'm still missing M:I 1-3 so I might bite on 19.99 each and complete the collection.

I know, it’s a stone cold classic. I keep holding off on the DVD in hopes we see a release.

My partner probably thinks I spend too much on home media. Honestly, I live within my means but I even think I do. She's very supportive of my hobby though and certainly likes being able to see a lot of the latest films, as well as some films she never would have thought to watch and she gets excited for the 4K releases. Always asks if I'm going to pick up certain new films, some of which I do just because I know she has an interest in them. She also never uses our second TV now I've got my 4K one. Not a chance of her playing videogames on my HD 40" now, which she used to do all the time.

I watched #3 in the series and I must say, it may just be my favorite one of the series. #1 will always hold a place as being the original and still one of the best, but the pacing and constant intensity throughout M:I 3 just put this one slightly ahead. Owen Davian is, by far, my favorite villain of the series. The late PSH was such a damn fine actor. From one scene, he plays such an intense sociopath, then the next he plays such a light-hearted, humorous character, then back to a stone-cold badass. Chameleon actor.

I nearly forgot about Keri Russell's character in the film before rewatching it, as well. Just the rescue scene reminded me how great I think she did in her brief role in the film. I know she trained pretty hard for this film and one of the nuances that I really appreciate is the fact that she can shoot a firearm without wincing. It's not really that easy of a feat, but it adds to her being a competent "agent." Just one of those little things that when an actor/actress who plays an agent or trained individual and does wince, it just takes a tad of the believability away.

I also really liked the addition of Lawrence Fishburne in this movie. His little quips, "Please don't interrupt me when I am asking rhetorical questions," and "It's unacceptable that chocolate makes you fat, but I've eaten my share and guess what?" had me giggling.

Everyone else, including Billy Crudup, just did a damn fine job in this film. The film overall just had the right amount of humor, action, and intensity. I didn't even mind the cheesy late-80's/early-90's style ending and felt it added to it's charm.

Now that I've rewatched them all in close succession of one another, this is how I would rank them: 3, 1, 5, 4 (really almost a tie with #5), and then 2, then maybe Mummy Impossible.

That's why I love MI3 as much as I do, not just for giving us that truly personal side to Hunt that's never been seen before or since but because those smaller roles feel so real, so rounded (literally in Fishburne's case), so full of character. I love his line about him losing his sleep.

Far too much love for MI: 3 on this thread!

MI: 2 was so bad it was memorable, but MI:3 was so bad I can largely never remember what it was about - other than the fact I hated it.

After reading so many of these glowing comments and reviews I bit the bullet and dropped an order for the box set, should be arriving here from the UK on Thursday. Needless to say I am very excited.

So now that the dust has settled, what would you guys and gals say is your favourite presentation of the five?

Such is the quality of the boxset that it's a tough choice. I could easily land on I or III but i've gots to go with Ghost Protocol. I had super high expectations going in yet the quality of the presentation still managed to shock me. The Burj Khalifa stuff - f*** a duck, it's just absolute perfection.

The Dubai sequence in GP is probably the best part of the whole set, quality wise. But overall I'd have to give it to MI:3, the HDR in that one is nuts.

If Ghost Protocol looked like the IMAX stuff (and real IMAX at that, none of this Alexa 65 chicanery) all the way through the movie then it wouldn't just win here, it would win 4K, period. But it doesn't, and so the original gets my nod. To see a 35mm presentation look so organic, so textured, and of a movie which never fared all that well in previous incarnations, damn, it warms my heart. Given that Par have been a bit schizo lately then it could've gone either way, but they nailed it.

I am pleased with all of them, but I give the highest props to the first movie. It just looks so beautifully natural and tactile. I love that it doesn't try to "boost" skin tones or lighting.
A lot of that has to do with De Palma's style as well (and because it was before around 2003). Regardless, the M:I transfer wins for me.

After that... I guess Ghost Protocol, then M:I3, then the other two... but each movie has such a different style that it's hard to stick them all in the same category.

Tough call but M:I1 gets my vote. It was the one I was worried about after reading early mixed reviews, one said it was garbage. So when I popped it in a rush a relief was felt. They are are stellar IMO.
