It's definitely there alright, seems to be a grading issue rather than an outright HDR end-user mapping problemo. Phew, The Matrix's UHD isn't perfect after all, folks! Perhaps the machines realised that they lacked the programming language to convey a "perfect UHD" so they mussed it up a bit to keep us convinced that we're not in the Matrix.
I still love the way the pulse cannon and the hover pads look though, that blue charge is luscious. Last edited by Geoff D; 05-23-2018 at 02:55 PM. |

In my own defence it doesn't look as overtly posterised on my set as it does in the photos seen thus far. It's still odd, but given that they're on a dilapidated hovercraft from 2069 that's been jury-rigged with loads of tech it didn't stand out to me at all upon first viewing: ![]() |

If I am reading that right then not only does the BR have a half-assed HDR-SDR transfer the encode for the video has a low bitrate.
Definitely curious to see more comparison caps of the available transfers and see those funky colors in that one shot on the uhd when I can pick the title. |

Just a photo of a screen for the UHD, had to bring the exposure right down to get the highlights SO NO IT DOESN'T LOOK THAT DARK IN REALITY. ![]() Last edited by Geoff D; 05-23-2018 at 03:49 PM. |

Caved and watched this one last night (wife saw it came in and pretty much insisted). I thought it looked quite good overall but I noticed a fair amount of issues when it came to overcooked whites and colors. I plan on exploring this title more this weekend to see how much of it is "baked in" and how much could be adjusted out with my tone map. I have well over 150 UHD titles and it is REALLY rare that I get titles that have issues with my tone mapping, so I have a feeling this one could just be some overzealous authoring or a byproduct of the different grade for the HDR10 base layer. Hard to say. But I did find some of the color moments looking gimmicky because of it, plus some other issues. All nitpicks that some may not see, but enough that I am going to explore further.
