It's definitely there alright, seems to be a grading issue rather than an outright HDR end-user mapping problemo. Phew, The Matrix's UHD isn't perfect after all, folks! Perhaps the machines realised that they lacked the programming language to convey a "perfect UHD" so they mussed it up a bit to keep us convinced that we're not in the Matrix.

I still love the way the pulse cannon and the hover pads look though, that blue charge is luscious.

What's really going to bake your noodle later on is, would most people still notice it if we hadn't said anything?

You win the internet for today, sir!

In my own defence it doesn't look as overtly posterised on my set as it does in the photos seen thus far. It's still odd, but given that they're on a dilapidated hovercraft from 2069 that's been jury-rigged with loads of tech it didn't stand out to me at all upon first viewing:

It's not just the object soundtrack, but the core as well. About 15 seconds into JP1 and I was cursing Disney. I'll expect to do the same when The Matrix shows up locally.

Huh, it was like 50 BP movies with slips on the rack.

WTH, just when I think that a movie didn't have a cover. They are trashing them this is stupid but I bet the studios don't know about this.

People spend a lot of money on a movie and like myself. I love slips, I don't know how many other people like slips. But I really look to have a slip with the movie. This is sad cause BB is doing this on their own I seriously doubt the studios told them it was ok to do this.

I did take one out the trash and it was in PERFECT condition. So, why, Smh….
I would call Best Buy headquarters and report that immediately. There is no way corporate could find that acceptable.

Have JP but haven't watched it yet, but Matrix is almost on par with Blade Runner 2049.

20th Anniversary trilogy pack next year, corrected disc with Atmos flagged as default. Perfection.

One can dream, anyway.

Yeah, that ATMOS track is not the default and it's pretty stupid.

If I am reading that right then not only does the BR have a half-assed HDR-SDR transfer the encode for the video has a low bitrate.

Definitely curious to see more comparison caps of the available transfers and see those funky colors in that one shot on the uhd when I can pick the title.

Yes, the white parts of the building look quite 'hot' on the UHD compared to the image you've posted, however it still retains most of the visible lines in the white panelling....unlike that joke of a new BD.

Just a photo of a screen for the UHD, had to bring the exposure right down to get the highlights SO NO IT DOESN'T LOOK THAT DARK IN REALITY.

Caved and watched this one last night (wife saw it came in and pretty much insisted). I thought it looked quite good overall but I noticed a fair amount of issues when it came to overcooked whites and colors. I plan on exploring this title more this weekend to see how much of it is "baked in" and how much could be adjusted out with my tone map. I have well over 150 UHD titles and it is REALLY rare that I get titles that have issues with my tone mapping, so I have a feeling this one could just be some overzealous authoring or a byproduct of the different grade for the HDR10 base layer. Hard to say. But I did find some of the color moments looking gimmicky because of it, plus some other issues. All nitpicks that some may not see, but enough that I am going to explore further.
