I'll take your word for it. They both felt as watchable in the first act as one another... I have now seen Mortal Engines through and it was enjoyable enough. A visual spectacle thing which no surprise found it a reference presentation PQ.

I just wish Steampunk was more popular in cinema, and I was really hoping this would be the movie to finally ignite public interest in it.

You all got me all worked up with all this low-stock talk so I panicked and placed an order today at my local Best Buy. Thanks! I was looking for an excuse to pick this up and you guys delivered. I still remember the first time I saw a trailer for this in Dolby Cinema. I wasn't sure about the movie itself but I could tell it was going to be a knockout UHD. Looking forward to watching it tonight.

Sort of same thing happened with me. I wanted to see it but I thought I could wait. I then read how amazing the picture looked being filmed in 8k supposedly with a 4k DI. I had placed an order through Best Buy but that order got delayed. Then I stared getting worried bc there was such low stock.

Positive news though: it is back in stock for delivery on Best Buy right now!!! Hurry up everybody!!! I placed an order needless to say...

My local store had a few copies. On a side note, I usually work from home on Mondays and then go into the office on Tuesday, but my schedule is wonky this week so I went into the office today and the entire time I was at Best Buy I thought it was Tuesday. I was like "UHDs are selling out fast! where are all the new releases???" Turns out I'm just a dumbass.

This is an obscenely nice looking UHD. I’m not entirely sure I’d call it the best looking disc I’ve ever seen, but I have a hard time saying with certainty that anything else tops it in terms of sheer visual splendor, whether it’s the detail, colors, or highlights. Can’t really overstate how amazing this looks from start to finish.

It’s a shame the movie tanked. I saw far worse movies in 2018 that made far more money. Also a shame that Michael Bennett didn’t get any lines. What a weird ass cameo.

After watching this disc, I randomly wanted Stardust in UHD. There's no reason Paramount would ever release it in UHD but it'd be mighty pretty.

Mighty pretty, huh? Like Robert Deniro's performance in that movie?

I'd love to see Stardust on UHD, too!!

Patriots legend Michael Bennett is in this movie?! That's hilarious. First I've heard of this.

Watched last night, what a great looking UHD. The effects and action were great, but would you expect anything less from Weta Digital? I enjoyed the movie, but wanted to love it. Pretty much the same way I felt about Valerian.

it's weird to say it was a pretty paint-by-numbers plot since it's a movie about freakin' motorized cities. I wonder how it would have turned out if Jackson had directed and not just produced, or some other director with a distinctive style and vision.

I wonder how this would have done at the box office had it not been up against Into the Spider-Verse or if it had more recognizable leads. Not that having Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis really helped Jupiter Ascending at the box office though...

Doubt we'll get a sequel but I'd watch it!

...And I'll join in the chorus of demand for Stardust on UHD!

Haven't seen this yet, but from the feedback this should be visually amazing on the level of Valerian and Dark Tower

This one had a Atmos sound track and made pretty good use 7.1 but missed many opportunities to use the overheads for effects. There was some music bleed into the overheads but just a couple of actual effects.

Had way too much shaky handheld camera use, fast cut, tilt, pan, zoom for me. YMMV.

Really? I wasn't expecting that with this (type of) movie.

Trailers looked great to me. To blind buy or not to blind buy...

absolutely loved the visuals! audio is perfectly fine, no point deduction from me at least (if the UHD AV score of 4.5 reflects the normal standard for "excellent", and 5 being reserved for the creme de la creme, then I agree with the site's evaluation, the visual mos def earns the highest remark).

the transitions (AKA the story of the movie, lol) between those gorgeous 4K reference demo scenes though...I have to stake a hard step back and say the story is, OK, just OKay. I am more than willing to shut my brain off to enjoy the movies like the Transformers for what they are, and I've done it over and over and time again... I guess the thing is that I expect absolutely nothing from the Transformers movies, while this movie, on paper, got a lot going on, the Peter Jackson name association, the Steampunk aesthetics, the world settings, these elements make me want to invest more into the story, and as a result, left disappointed against (maybe undue) higher expectation.

First complaint I've heard of that specific nature, I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

It’s his issue with a lot of modern movies. I’ve seen him complain about it in other movies where I didn’t think they had that problem.

There is no shaky cam like in found footage movies in this. It's close to the action like all modern movies which involves some quick pans but nothing even of a Bourne level.

IMO, always best to judge for yourself. It is the reason I have had Netflix disc-by-mail for so many years and video store rental before that, allows me to screen all movies then decide if any given title is worth a purchase. Also, I view on a 133" 2.35:1 screen where the style looks different compared to watching on a 55" or 65" screen.
