What should the movie have done there then, now that Grace and Dani have scarpered with her car and presumably whatever other heavy-duty weapons that Sarah had brought with her? Show her dropping grenade after grenade after grenade only to go "oh well, I can't kill it that-a-way! Oopsie!"? And Sarah didn't have another person that the Terminators were hunting to contend with before, she can plainly see that the Rev-9 was attacking Grace and Dani on the bridge so when they bugger off she makes the decision to prioritise finding them.

You're right that I'll defend this movie like an attack dog but only because it'd make sense if people just put more than a nano-second of thought into it

I don't know what some people were expecting. I loved it. Its never going to be a T1 or T2 but its a damn good entertaining direct sequel to the original two.
If this is the final movie then I'm happy with that but I also never thought I get two more after Salvation underperformed and I liked that one too.
After two PG13 rated ones I never thought I'd get an R rated one again let alone Linda Hamilton and James Cameron back.
Anything is possible with this franchise. Never say never.

Why such low expectations? Why can’t it be better than T1 or T2? A reasonable person should assume that the new movie will be the best, otherwise why would anyone put in so much effort to make it? This new generation has everything backwards. Everyone is either interested in making some quick money or taking their mind off from ADHD for a few hours. Not even the bare minimum of quality is achieved. Anyone praising this abomination ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Just listened to it again and yeah, it's literally the exact same take as in T2, minus the mention of Silberman.

Nope, i'm gonna say never, because this franchise needs that never to happen.

Worshipper of Cameron here and T1 and T2, I also like T3 and really like Salvation although haven't seen them in a while, not sure that would hold up.

DF is a good film but the opening is a slap in the face as a fan, unforgivable, and considering how pissed off Cameron was at Alien 3 and its opening, it's hysterical that he let this fly here. It does provide for an interesting take on Sarah but nope, just the wrong decision.

We now know that there was apparently behind the scenes troubles on the film with Cameron himself saying there was tension in the editing room with Miller, although he says it's part of the process. He never stepped foot on set, so yeah, it would have been something else obviously had he directed it.

The problem with the film, aside from the opening, are the repeats from T1 and T2, and T3 too. Too many similar beats, the worst being a somewhat touching scene with Arnold (or Carl) towards the end, except that it's a rip off of T2's ending (before the last, last scene), and T3 too. And it doesn't have nearly the same impact as it does in T2, the emotion that Miller is going for isn't earned, it doesn't land.

Mackenzie is fantastic as always and there are some very cool character touches with her, Hamilton is great and it's good to see her back, Arnold as strong as ever, the set pieces are solid, the score is utterly forgettable (I usually like Junkie XL's work).

However, Reyes' work here is so poor imo that I'm relieved there won't be a sequel, I'm so puzzled as to why Hamilton and Miller saw what they saw in her. She felt to me like she was trying so hard, felt forced, everyone else carries her and that's the only reason she doesn't tank the film. One particular scene in the future is painful to watch.

Luna pales in comparison to Patrick.

Good movie?

I haven't seen Dark Fate yet, but I'm not interested in reductive remakes. (that's why I loathe The Force Awakens with every cell of my body)

Is that why you own Godzilla 98 and Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes.

Seriously? I suggest you put more than a nano-second thought into this:
[Show spoiler] T-800 Carl, which killed John Connor back in 1998 and now living among people, somehow knows the coordinates of Rev-9 arrival, and he passed them to Sarah, who now appears on the bridge just in time to save the protagonists. The question here though is, how COULD he possibly KNOW the time and date of the arrival of Rev-9? This could never have happened, since T-800 is from the future, where Skynet rules the world, and Rev-9 is from the future, where Legion rules the world. And according to the story, T-800 knew nothing about Legion's future. What is it, if not yet another lazy illogical writing?

So, you know, let's just stop at this movie being a mindless pop corn flick, which you may/may not like depending on your tastes in, well, pop corn movies (Even at that, I thought fx and action were uninspiring, generic and unimaginative, but that's just me, of course). But to say you should put more than a nano-second thought into this, is, strictly speaking, very much an exaggeration.

to be fair, Godzilla 98 is not a 'rehash'. I don't remember much about Burton's Apes, but I don't remember it being a rehash of the original

a bad sequel has more value than a remake-quel in my book

Godzilla 98 is very different movie than every single japanese one, even if the plot is basically the same. That's just how kaiju movies works.

As for Burton's Planet of the Apes I bought it only because it was in the box with original series. I hate this movie and I still haven't rewatched it since 2001 or 2002.

I don't like Salvation, but at least they tried something different. T3, Genisys and now Dark Fate (I know all the spoilers) are just remakes of T1/T2. If that's enough for someone then OK, but why bothering with inferior copy when you can once again watch original masterpiece?

I don't know why you're using the word rehash, that word was never used.

Again, more than a nano-second:
[Show spoiler] Carl is NOT sensing the actual Terminators or reading from some sort of pre-known list, he's sensing changes in "chronal displacement" as they occur i.e. an incursion in time that appears before it happens, SO IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THEY CAME FROM AN ALTERNATE FUTURE as the chronal displacement is still occuring in THIS time. **** me.

It really is staggering that some folks don't seem to understand this, it's so simple and and I ain't no rocket scientist to begin with. It's almost as if their blind hatred gets in the way of interpreting the story but nah, that'd never happen!

LOL. This is explained on a level of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court - boom! he hits his head and goes to the past. I mean come on,
[Show spoiler] so Carl now is a wizard, sensing the fluctuations of time continuum?! I thought he was just a regular assassin cannot be bargained or reasoned with... Or right, I forget, he also grew his consciousness and made his Terminator-hating dog love him because.. he understands human better now?! Guess he switched that dog to a learning mode as well...

Anyway, this is like trying to make a hut out of mud and sticks, but let's face it, it won't hold if the wind gets a bit stronger.

Way to evade the answer that's been given you, but funnily enough I wasn't expecting anything else. It's a movie that deals with stuff like advanced killer robotos and time travel, why is it so bizarre that a Terminator would have an ability to detect shifts in the 4th dimension as well as the other three? Such a feature might come in handy if they were to keep an eye out for reinforcements or indeed enemies that have followed through time. Nah, that makes too much sense.
