Gonna be the elephant in the room and say I want a 4k edition of Superman Returns. Oh and Richard Donner's Cut of number 2.

Curiously, WB has updated the IMDB listing of Superman IV with a load of images - promos, stills, vidcaps - that were definitely NOT there before and some of them are from the deleted scenes not found in The Canon Cut of the film. This may just be connected to the overall push of DC content on HBO Max and the upcoming Snyder Cut of Justice League, but it's something to note and could be an indication of something more.

Does this release have a the 151 minute Donner cut in 4K or is it just the original theatrical version?

The 4K disc is the first time I've actually watched the film all the way through and really enjoyed the presentation.
The cloak that Jor-El wears does seem very intense and bright. Took me a little while to get used to the cinematography in the scenes around the house/prairie. Liked the Atmos audio. |

Has the shot where Superman is landing, before he goes to Luthor's lair been corrected? On the Theatrical Version blu-ray, he is flying towards the stree and "disappears" because of DNR dirt removal mistaking the matte for dirt, before the shot concludes. Or is it something the audience wasn't supposed to see in the first place? I guess the accompanying blu-ray has the mistake?

Theatrical version. ABC TV padded version to run over two nights. Dick Donner's extended version. WB should have made the Donner Extended Cut available in 4k as well as the theatrical cut.

And this is the reason why I still haven’t bought this movie. Here’s all the cuts:
1. Original Cut, ran roughly 3 hours, should be the same as the TV cut but in one long part instead of two. 2. 1978 Theatrical Cut, 143 minutes. 3. 1979 Home Video Cut, 128 minutes, as far as I know the only edit was the end credits, but there may also be more differences. This was only created to fit the film on a shorter tape/one tape. 4. TV Cut, played in two parts over two nights. Same as 1 but broken in two parts. 5. 2000 Special Edition Cut, cleaned up some visual effects and sound effects, and remixed the soundtrack 6. 2001 Extended Cut, completely overhauled the image and soundtrack, and added footage to the movie 7. The Blu-ray Extended Cut, I have no clue how this plays. 8. 4K cut, cleaned up some visual effects and wires, yet is still the most faithful version of the original movie available. I don’t feel like playing eBay tag for all the cuts to decide which one is the best, so I just back-burnered it until I have tome to think. Could’ve easily just dropped them all in a nice box set but that would be too smart. |

I'm not in it to get every single version of this movie. I am very happy with the 4k presentation of the theatrical cut.
Would I buy an extended edition 4k? Yep. The TV cut is basically an extra on the digital copy so you can watch it there. |

The 3 hour cut was discovered in a vault years later. It's a fantastic curiosity but is in no way the best version of the film. As the poster above me stated it's included as a bonus feature on the digital copy. My recommendation (assuming you're only interested in the first movie) is to pick up the 4K of the theatrical. That way you have both the nicest transfer of the theatrical on UHD as well as access to multiple cuts via the digital copy. Then you can decide from there if you feel inclined to pick up the other versions on blu. |

I would pick up the Theatrical blu ray, I don't like the 4k at all.
Let me ask you a question so you want the film to look as you have known it for 40 years then pick up the blu ray. If you are happy for the colour to be changed, to meet UHD expectations buy that. My grievances are further back in this thread. Superman is probably my favourite movie of all time based on my childhood memory and loving it for 35+ years and I hate the way the 4k looks. |

Some of the Krypton shots apparently were not from original negative sources, but dupes for some reason and that may be why they look a little funky. |
