That's why I LOVE and support Alamo Drafthouse. They enforce the no talk, no text policy. I've seen 83 movies at Alamo since they took over the AMC theater downtown KC. I've had less than half dozen bad experiences at the theater.

My wife and I loved the film. She walked away feeling the film was about mental health issues and just used the Joker character as the vehicle to discuss the topic. I see her point, but don't 100% agree.

Not to retread all the topics that have been brought up in the thread, so here's a different question:

Did they pick Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll Pt 2" for a specific reason? For those that don't know, he's a convicted Pedophile

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-31657929

That song was a standard at KC Chiefs games and due to his conviction (and the fact he'd get royalties from the use) made the Chiefs abandon the song.

Did they pick the song for a specific reason for it's use in the film or were they just tone def?

Not making a big deal out of it, just curious because it's use stood out to me.

Fully agree, especially with regard to the cinematography. Understandably, all most people will remember is Phoenix, but a significant part of the greatness of his performance is how well he (and everything else) was filmed.

I have AMC A-List, so I go often. I prefer the massive screen and sound and the communal experience. People at the theaters I frequent are quiet (silent really), respectful, don't use their phones while the movie is playing, etc. If any of those things happened at my theater, I'd have the management throw those people out, or at a minimum demand free passes.

Not arguing with you or your choices. It's unfortunate that your experience has been so unpleasant.

I go to see 2-3 movies a month and I rarely have bad experiences. I typically go to Dolby Cinema matinees so there's not a big crowd and most of the people are just there to see the movie. But even with big crowds I rarely get loud talking or people on cell phones, and I wouldn't trade seeing Endgame is a packed cinema with anything. The worst experience I've had recently was actually with Joker, and it wasn't because people were being rude, I just couldn't stand the smell of the nasty theater food that someone near me was eating. But people gotta eat.

I think Phillips 100% knew what he was doing when he put that song in his movie. Just another way to show us how 'edgy' he thinks he is. Sorry, but this movie just reeks of posturing and poseurism to me.

I was like wait, did I really just hear that? They might end up replacing it on home video.

I've heard the song before but I had no idea whom was attached to it, pity as it's a cool track. It really did fit the scene so I hope they don't replace it, just don't elevate the significance of Glitter's involvement although I could see WB enjoying a second round of controversy before it hits the shelves.

Sometimes, in my experience it tends to correlate with prices. Cheaper theaters will have more of it, pay for a IMAX screening or go to a more expensive theater and its not really an issue.

Doesn't mean it needs to be censored.

Maybe I need to be more specific. Royalties to a man that takes holiday's to country's where it's easy to find young boys.

Looking up Glitter on IMDB it looks like a song was also used on Gotham it just says “performer” though. Also noted is Linklater’s Boyhood...so is Linklater also :ahem: “edgy.”

Not denying anything though as Phillips also got his start with a rather fascinating doc on GG Allin.

Just seems like a PR disaster waiting to happen for Warner allowing his music in one of their productions.

I don't know, put a bit of Manic Street Preachers Slash And Burn in there. Music most Americans haven't been exposed to.

Joaquin's routine was so in sync with the music. We've got enough night club/party scenes in cinema where people are dancing to nothing, or dancing to a song that doesn't end up in the movie. A dub would mutilate it.

I think in that moment it could also be said to symbolize being free. Free to listen to music that you're not supposed to enjoy anymore. Free to use what works best. Maybe even free to profit off your work no matter what you are.

One man's edge is another man's feng shui.

240 million gross worldwide for this weekend. Philips getting offered to make a new generation of Batman film's now for sure.
