Lois knows, best ending, STM stays as it is, Superman II ends with them breaking up but keeping Lois in the know.
This is exactly why I wish we knew Richard donner’s plans for the new ending after deciding to change the rewinding time ending to Superman 1.

Jimmy's new camera scene includes the Bully at the elevator. It works as a way of reminding Clark of the bully.
However.... Biggest issue with that scene is Clark and Jimmy walk through a door the Villains destroyed about 30 minutes ago.

This does beg the question how this works, it follows on from the scene in the DP after the turning back time and Lois asking for a Pizza. Therefore Clark would have returned to get revenge on the bully after turning back time for this scene to play out correctly, despite the original occurrence no longer happening.

So Donner filmed both scenes with the revenge on the bully after the turning back time, so not sure this really works unless you follow the sequence of events I stated earlier.

Just an a la carte BD of that Donner II disc with the lossless would be nice (the 2006 disc is lossy).

Don't need to revisit III or IV. Ever.
I don't blame you. Superman III & IV were terrible and was nothing but quick cash grabs.

Well the guy explaining him the consequences of letting bullies treat people like that makes it not revenge but prevention/protection of others, a Superman thing, and with the dialogue setting this up then the smile flying off is more like of "I did the right thing he won't bully someone else", which without that DP dialogue, just makes Supes seem like he's getting his revenge and is a bully then (since he IS Superpowered) and his smile flying at the end more like of pleasure from revenge! just the opposite. So I like that dialogue set up and think it's necessary.

I would call the endless Friday the 13th and Halloween sequels of the 1980s and 90s more "cash grabs" than these Superman films. Though Cannon cutting the budget down by half on Superman IV surely damned the movie more.

Christopher Reeve was at least intending/trying to do something interesting with both of these...I don't really think it's his fault that they failed, as so many other factors/influences were involved. I can never see these pictures as entirely soulless due to his presence, however fractured a history they may have. And for me, even IV retains more of a nobility than III due to where Reeve's heart was with it.

That would have been an unhappy ending of sorts so I doubt that would have happened.

True, but the biggest mistake in the franchise was when they've cast Richard Pryor in Superman III, and made the movie into a comedy. It didn't work and it backfired.

I remember first watching this thinking the hierarchy of power in the DC universe will never change, certainly.

Just noticed that.

Misdirection? Mistake? MultiDCuniverse of Madness?

Wouldn't be the first time Amazon mixes and messes everything up, would it? Let's see and wait for an official announcement.

I am not aware of this version. Well, I mean, I heard about it but never had the chance to watch it. How is the ending in this one? No magic kiss but no turning back time?

Excellent solution indeed. I never understood the need to have Lois forget everything (even if she complains about it ). And as III and IV don't really exist, we don't care...

The intro/credits of Supes III always had me laugh and I quite dig Dark Superman. And I don't have many complaints around Richard Pryor. And I was traumatized by the robot-lady at the end. Wait, do I like this movie??

LOL that was good. In reality though, the best way to end Superman 2 is to never end it, just keep that movie going !

There's a lot I like in the movie-- I'll watch Christopher Reeves play Superman in anything (the reason I still enjoy the dumpster fire that is Superman IV!). I really liked how they brought back Lana and created this interesting love-triangle scenario where Lois is in love with Superman and Lana is in love with Clark. It's too bad nothing continued from that.

BUT... I will say that a lot of the movie doesn't work. My main gripe is Richard Lester. He always seems to want to add gags to everything, and I don't really think his sense of humor or his grasp on comedy is very good. I'd say a solid 75 percent of the comedy in the film is eye-rolling and not really funny, particularly Richard Pryor who's scenes really tend to drag too long.

The Bond movies were doing the same, it's not always about rushing the next picture out, it's more of a, "Don't worry we've got this, it's in good hands."

Unfortunately Supes got eventually cannoned.

My limited understanding of the friction between Donner and the Salkinds was that the producer Pierre Spengler was essentially the Salkinds terrier dog and Spengler and Donner really didn’t get on as it was Spengler who was insisting on doing things faster and cheaper. Donner said if Spengler is kept on for SII then I’m not doing it, and the Salkinds called his bluff and fired him, at least that’s how I interpret the story.

By the way, can anyone confirm that the US 4K release of S:TM includes the Blu-ray disc from the Anthology (theatrical), not the old one? Still hesitating on buying. Thanks.
