Superman: The Movie 4K UHD (1978)

Bill Hunt has unofficially confirmed that Superman II,III & IV are coming to UHD in 2023. II will include both cuts and all the discs will feature Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos audio. His recent post on his site mentions this.

Yes; the US 4K release contains the theatrical BD from the anthology. (Though I think some other countries got the Special Edition BD.)

I imagine we’ll get a box set with the first one too, but we’ll see. Awesome that II is including the Donner Cut as well, I was always expecting just the theatrical version.

I wonder if the Donner Cut will be true 4K or just an upscale. If it's the former, I may have a hat to eat.

Hopefully, was it all put together on a 2k digital master? It’s possible they just went back to the film elements again and cut it back together in a new 4K master, but I don’t know how difficult that would be.

It’d be really cool if they released a 4K version of the Anthology set and included Superman Returns as well. I know there are a couple of… reasons they might be ignoring it but throwing it in the set and avoiding slapping a giant photo of Lex Luthor on the packaging should do the trick.

We've been discussing that some here and in other threads. I'm pretty sure it was just 2K (possibly even just standard 1920x1080).

I would think reassembling it in 4K and redoing the VFX would be a gargantuan undertaking, and the way WB is currently operating, it just doesn't seem likely to me. Especially since they didn't even do a 4K scan of the existing film element for the first movie's Special Edition.

They have the original negative for most of the Donner cut stuff... You can see it in the featurette from the 2006 DVD/BD/HD-DVD

I saw indeed that the UK 4K edition of Superman has the Special Edition on Blu-ray. Do we know if this is the Anthology disc or the old one? (sorry--always the same question )

I know they have it; the question is whether they've gone to the effort of reassembling and re-rendering it all for 4K. This would be a gigantic undertaking (comparable to what Paramount just spent a year doing on Star Trek: TMP). If that were the case, I feel like we would have heard some rumblings about it by now.
