Default Target - Funny

So I have been looking for a local copy of the 4k Matrix for about a week. Last week I saw online a Target about 15 miles away that had inventory. Today I looked and it still said the same. So I made the trip grabbed a copy and headed to the checkout, this is we're it got comical. I was told that they couldn't sell it to me because the street date is November of 2018. This was the story after going through several young people. I finally got to speak with the 18 year old store manager... Even that made me smile because it took him forever to finally admit he wasn't the store manger, he was giving me his best game face. Anyway what's the deal, politics between Amazon, Best Buy and Target? HELLO TARGET... advertising in stock and the product is on the shelf that you can't sell?? What a crack up

By the way, the UHD digital copy just finally came to VUDU (was only HDX at street date). It was a late launch as UHD was only available on FandangoNOW.

I returned my online order to a local store last week and the lady at the register had the hardest time completing the return. Said it wasn't scheduled to be available for several months.

I watched this last night. I wasn't watching very critically, but here is what I noticed:

* Atmos is not default audio
* Lips are very red in some scenes at the beginning - then inconsistent throughout. It was a bit distracting.
* Overall it still suffers from grainy scenes. Not sure if the 4K has improved that much.
* When Neo "sees the Matrix" near the end, it was so clear that it almost didn't fit with the rest of the film.
* Soundtrack does seem improved - bigger than ever. Some nice height channel moments.
* I noticed some visual details that I hadn't noticed before, FWIW.

I've only watched the SDR Blu-ray once on this TV (this is my first decent TV - KS8000), and that was over a year ago. So, I need to spend some time A/B comparing the two.

Perhaps The Matrix UHD wasn't even sold in stores, and the data she's seeing when searching their systems is for the Three Film Collection coming later this year.

The appreciation of Universal's menu screen usually varies depending on your territory. You need a Secret Decoder Ring™ in some parts to understand them!

It's supposed to be grainy. It's an older film and those will always be grainy if the transfer's done correctly.

What are "black bars"? I've screened twice as thrown onto decent sized ST100 and the only criticism I found was with pushing the white balance (artistic intent).

What does it refer to? I don't think anyone could be sincerely referring to the nature of Scope aspect on a 1.78 panel display.

I should have been more clear. The grain didn't look natural to me. I thought it had a digitally-encoded look at times. It's like it stood out more than the previous versions, but I might just be more critical of 4K (since it's supposed to improve the look of the film grain). I need to watch the regular Blu-ray again and compare, though.

Red lips? Yeah, I noticed that too. I figured Keanu is a closet crossdresser and forgot to remove the lipstick. Or perhaps makeup went a bit overboard? It couldn't possibly be a mistake because Bill Pope signed off on it!

Grain never looks natural to me, but that's only because I've just started noticing it over the last couple of years or so. When people would mention grain, I wouldn't really know what it was they were talking about. And I never saw it theaters much despite having grown up with FILM all my life and not DIGITAL. I just never noticed it before. It's new to me in a way, if you know what I mean.

Agreed, the Sony menus are SHITE.

Well, Damn! That's one of the things I like about Sony's UHD presentations. I'll admit they do look quite the SHITE, but I like the fact that they actually decided to do a new menu screen instead of half assing it like some of the rest. Even if it is SHITE.
