Fox double dipped on the Martian 4K theatrical cut within 4 months of the original release by offering the 4K extended cut, heh.

There have been some other re-releases as well, I believe Batman vs Superman is getting a re-release soon.

I think The Martain has been the only one so far? But that was a big budget modern day blockbuster. I don't know, I just have this feeling it will not go down the same route like it did with regular Blu as far as rereleases is concerned. I hope I am wrong though for those who would very much like that to happen.

So technically it's included in the set, just not on the 4K disc. That's the point I was trying to make.
The Blu-ray that comes with the UHD is the 2007 release, which always had the correct original mono track, albeit in lossy Dolby Digital.

And the box set version with the lossless mono is an Anchor Bay disc. Maybe it was SF that encouraged getting that track on there, but it was still AB that produced and authored the disc.

That's what makes all this even more disappointing. Anchor Bay has had this asset the whole time in one form or another. Not sure what happened on that initial 35th Anniversary BD; either something got mislabeled, or someone made a super-misguided decision. At any rate, it seems to have been passed on to the UHD, probably because no one bothered to check on it.

To try to understand a bit better - the original mono included on the Blu-ray on this 4K set *is correct* as in doesn't have any of the additional "revisionist noises/effects"? And the only difference between it and the Anchor Bay complete series version if lossless vs. lossy?

Will BvS be any different though? The second release of Martian was at least extended. That’s double dipping. To me double dipping is buying again if the release is different. If Halloween is released on 4k again with the original mono loads will double dip.

I meant to add, watching the UHD I noticed things that triggered my OCD that I never noticed before.

Like the fingerprints all over the windshield when Laurie and her friend are smoking in the car or how dirty the white door and trim are in the house she's babysitting in.

Maybe they were always there, but I never noticed at lower res.

Sounds revisionist to me, they must have added that with the HDR pass.

I actually noticed that too. I noticed a lot of nuances I missed in my 50 viewings on previous formats.

Yeah, the audio is ok on the included 1080p blu but the main issue w/ the included Blu-ray in the 4k set is the video as its not from the new restoration like the Halloween disc in the AB 15/10-disc set. That AB 15/10-disc set is the only way to get both the new restoration + original mono for Halloween.

The new remaster is only on the UHD. The box set includes the older 2013 remaster.

Pretty sure its the same scan, just with an HDR grade instead of an SDR grade. Grain density, detail, etc all look very similar just a bit different color.

Do you actually buy any 4k discs? Serious question.

You've purchased the UHD Blu-ray release of Halloween specifically for the 4K release, not for the 1080p blu-ray anyway, so it really shouldn't matter.

Ones that are worth it. I don't just buy stuff for the sake of buying it. If I feel a 4k release is flawed and the prior BD offers an overall better a/v experience I wont buy the 4k.
