It might be a new thing as the ones I got from a ghibli shop in Tokyo were in packs of 5 in clear cellophane bags tied at the top.

They’re called Totoro Finger Puppets (トトロ 指人形). Don’t know if you can get them in the zip-lock bags on Amazon, but I do regularly see them for sale on sites like Rakuten and YAJ.

Just wanted to make sure everyone saw that On Your Mark is coming to Blu-ray after all; this is a reminder for those regulars who didn't see the conversation at the beginning of the week. I'd urge everyone to email the OYM email listed at the bottom of that page and ask Ghibli to consier shipping outside of Japan, otherwise, most of us will never get them unless they show up on eBay.

You're inquiring Ghibli directly about On your Mark? You could ask them about english subtitles on all the Takahata features then... That would REALLY add value to the box.

Nope. There's an email set up directly for inquiries about On Your Mark. Of course, they haven't responded to any of our requests, so I imagine they're just overwhelmed with responses/other stuff. A giveaway is admittedly not high on the list of a business's priorities.

I hope it's just that, I would hate for it to be that they don't have someone answering who can answer to English e-mails.

Maybe we should 'translate' our text and send that?

Here's the video bit-rates (in mbps) for standalone vs. boxset editions:

Cagliostro - 37.2 vs 37.2 (identical encodes)
Nausicaa - 39.5 vs 37.2
Laputa - 33.3 vs 36.5
Totoro - 34.6 vs 38.2
Kiki - 36.4 vs 38.9
Porco - 35.2 vs 38.2
Mononoke - 25.3 vs 30.6
Spirited Away - 27.0 vs 29.9
Howl - 24.3 vs 30.1
Ponyo - 23.5 vs 33.2
Wind Rises - 25.9 vs 32.5

I also sent the email... but I really doubt they will send it outside Japan.

I am more optimistic. I mean, we made the effort to purchase the set, and they want to offer the On Your Mark discs to purchasers as originally intended. They even wrote about how they wanted it in there to begin with but had to remove it at first to avoid a delay of the set's release.

I will gladly pay for the international shipping if that is what the hold-up is regarding international customers. I just want the disc being offered to buyers as it would be wonderful to have On Your Mark on Blu-ray. It's like a Miyazaki short film and (unsurprisingly) a beautiful one at that.

Not blu-ray-related, but still some nice news that Miyazaki will recieve an honorary Oscar at next year's gala. Well-deserved if you ask me!

... and he has already confirmed that he is going to attend the reception. He apparently said it is an "honor" to receive the award but that it is "bothersome to have to go to America to receive it". Typical Miyazaki response.

"I will make anime until I die," said Hayao Miyazaki in a recent interview. "I like telling stories and drawing pictures." However, Miyazaki stressed that he no longer has the physical strength to do feature length anime, so expect him to work on short anime and manga.

Well, great, but i hope we see them and they're not some Ghibli Museum exclusives!
