That’s from Halloween II. And in the TV cut of Halloween II they added a voice-over of young Laurie saying to young Michael, “Michael, pleas don’t be angry with me. I’m your sister. Please don’t hurt me.” This voice-over sounds so weird. I have no idea why it was included in the TV cut.

No, it's missing a commentary track.

I gave this a spin last night. I like the disc a lot. Fortunately, this movie has always looked good (given its source) on various formats over the years. Mind you, the blacks are milkier in those dark scenes, but the disc takes on a filmic, analog look. It just has that nice older theater edge to it or nicer film print feel. Detail can actually be pretty decent at times given the source. The color is just a bit more nicely nuanced from what I remember of the remastered BD although I no longer own it. I understand others hate the 5.1 audio, but it works for me and does a nice job. I put it the accompanying older BD afterward. The deeper blacks definitely stood out to me although the color saturation is just too much. The loss of blue light notable in the scene where Myers is coming through the door. However, I am rather happy with the UHD BD being the definitive (final?) version of this movie.

I doubt this will be the final remaster for the movie, which is why I'm thinking I'm just going to hold off for now. I fell in love with the movie when I saw it for the first time in 2013 and have already bought it twice since then, so I think I'll hold off on my third to see if they do another version. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they do one for one of the new movies coming out either this year or next year.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a new release (new cover, or steelbook, extras, etc.) but I see no reason at all why there would be a remaster. What left is there is to remaster? It was a very good 4K transfer and encode. You're not going to yield anything more appreciable from the original source. With the DVDs and BDs, there were always room for improvement although I think the 2013 BD probably maxed it out on that format.

Yep. I can’t see them redoing this. If they did though you can bet they would change the colour temperature once again.

I’m very happy with the UHD.

What about fixing the aspect ratio issue?

If the ratio issue was fixed and the original mono audio track included, I would buy this 4K release in an instant.

This is the last release I buy until Billy Kirkus releases the 45,000 feet of unused footage as bonus features (and rewarded handsomely financially) he is holding on to. This hair pulling has been going on for way over 15 years now.

Who?

And why should some dude supposedly hoarding stolen footage be paid for it?

It's not stolen. The footage was discovered back in 2006.

Here's something I found at the time:

[Show spoiler]

I would most definitely purchase a release with the ^above^ as "bonus features".

Where in my post did I say that it was stolen? I got the 15 years part wrong though.

My bad then. Being a Doctor Who fan I'm used to hearing that someone stole footage and wants a ransom for it.

I always found it interesting how it seems most folks want an Atmos mix for the original Star Wars but want nothing to do with a 7.1 mix for Halloween

It can be 22.8 as long as the original mix is there.
No original? Then it's revisionist not preservation.

I guess because the original mono was available on earlier and discontinued releases.

If original stereo or mono was available on old Star Wars releases, anything else released since would be similarly described as "laughable", "an abortion" and all the other subtleties of BR forums.

I wouldn't want either, but at least Star Wars was mixed as a surround sound format initially and had several different revisions even in the theatrical release for the 70mm and 35mm Dolby Stereo and mono. It then got remixed for the home, then again and again for subsequent releases, SW's audio has always been a moving target.

But taking a movie that's always had just the one OG audio track, resolutely mono, and uprating it into 7.1 is bound to be more contentious. Saying that, it's not the most sacrilicious upmix I've ever heard and if they'd just used the same stingers as the mono (like with Annie's death) I'd have even less to grumble about.
