HDR. In this case, Dolby Vision HDR. People have been saying this for like... a year? Year and a half? This question comes up in every thread. I'm pretty sure there's an FAQ that answers the whole 2K question on this forum somewhere.

Oh, good. Another one of these people.

2K is actually higher resolution than the 1080p you got on Blu-ray. Between that, more disc space, a more efficient encode, HDR bringing better blacks and detail in highlights, better color...

I mean, are you serious? Why does that nonsense keep popping up?

I'm not a fan of HDR at this point. I found it to be too harsh. When there's white text on black screen, it glows and if I need to open the info tab on the TV or the player, it's blinding. I've never seen DV, but can't imagine it being much different. Or is it?

Pixel quality > pixel count.

So sick and tired of people like this dude showing up on this forum.

Your TV isn't calibrated correctly if that's what you're seeing.

Could be in torch mode too or some other combo of super high OLED light/brightness/contrast settings. The default HDR modes are pretty cranked up on OLEDs and Im sure most other sets.

That being said, It(HDR/DV) can be a little much in a dark room with certain scenes.

Everything I've read says to have OLED and contrast at max and that's what I don't like. Taking OLED down to 50 looks much better for me (I have it at 40 and contrast at 80 for SDR). What do you guys recommend?

We have no idea what TV you have, and settings vary. But no, max contrast and/or brightness is not ideal for many sets because it is wayyyyy too bright. It needlessly brightens blacks and will also blow out details in highlights. Id suggest checking for settings for your model on one of the popular AV forums or by checking RTINGS to see if they reviewed and calibrated your tv.

I recommend leaving them both at 100 for HDR, but if you absolutely must tinker with them, try lowering the contrast to 80. Dropping the OLED Light down to 50 is insanity, IMO. Your SD settings are fine, though.

Go to AVSforum and find a thread on your TV model there and see what settings folks use who have had it calibrated, or have some skill in the matter.

As others said, there are many posts in many forums going into details here but at the highest level it isn't about 2k being higher than 1080p (which it technically is slightly) and thinking of it as "essentially just uprezzing a blu-ray" is very wrong. While the physical resolution of the DI may be "just" 1080P (technicaly that is 2048×1080 - slightly more horziontal pixels than HD - 1920x1080), it is not the data you find on a Blu-ray. The 2k DI is an uncompressed source that is then converted to 4k mastered in 10bit DCI-P3 color (in rec 2020 container) and HDR10 or DV (which may have been in the source) by the professionals who made the movie.
A 1080p blu-ray is seriously compressed source, compared to the master, with color downgraded to 8bit in the rec 709 color space and with no high dynamic range. And as noted by others, if you "don't prefer HDR" on your movies, your TV is incorrectly calibrated (and or you only watched a disc that was done poorly).

Nope, they are entirely unrelated. Redeem in MA and you won't have UV license. Redeem on UV and you *might* get a MA license if you have both linked to VUDU and redeem on Vudu. Now as to whether you will get a UHD license with the UHD Blu-ray, that is a whole other bag of crap as it depends on the studio and the redeem location and possibly even the title.
