Yes as a derogatory term because that's what others call him as a put down. He has owned the term as an F U to those that call him that. Just like they call Jon a "bastard". But never midget.

Huh?

I never thought that dwarf was a derogatory term...

Little People of America

Even on the LPA website, in the first paragraph:

Quote:
Today, the word “midget” is considered a derogatory slur. The dwarfism community has voiced that they prefer to be referred to as dwarfs, little people, people of short stature or having dwarfism, or simply, and most preferably, by their given name.
So according to their official website, they prefer to be referred to as dwarfs.

Good to know. Thanks. Sorry to derail the thread. Didn't mean for it to blow up like this.

Back to our regularly scheduled program:

I am eagerly awaiting reviews of this as well. Wondering if the PQ is any better than the BD. Also has me upset that it's Dolby Vision and I am a Samsung 4K TV owner. So, I have HDR10+ (which has zero UHD titles on BD) instead of DV.

Quite a lot of UHDs are Dolby Vision now - stick with LG next time

I think we should all resent the folks who posted simply to say they got their copy without offering any impressions on PQ.

First German review is up:

https://blu-ray-rezensionen.net/game...ffel-1-4k-uhd/

In short a pretty impressive upgrade with HDR10 the better looking option in this reviewers eyes - not DV.

Just watched the first episode in HDR-10. Overall it looked really good. The resolution looks sharp, but soft in a few scenes. The brothel scene looked soft and grainy and the feast scene looked grainy too. Most of the time I didn't notice any grain though. The color green really sticks out and is vivid whether it be from the vegetation or the green bowls in the feast scene. The details on the clothing were sharp and the contrast really brought out the textures.

The overall picture looked bright when it needed to be, but bright elements like torches
or candles never got that bright and I felt like it should have been brighter. The picture never looks too dim and everything is easy to make out. The blacks are deep without any crushing. The scenes had good depth that really separated objects in the background and foreground. It varies from scene to scene, but the skin tones looked pale like in winterfell during the day, but much more alive in the Daenerys' scenes.

The contrast in characters eyes like Daenerys' looked amazing in close ups. The contrast in the beach scene during sundown really brought out the time of day and made it feel very real. Overall, what really stuck out were the most in this episode were the colors and depth. The small highlights could have been a lot brighter and the resolution could have been just a bit sharper.

Just got a dispatch notification from Amazon UK, but I've noticed the artwork and even the product page has changed now, just showing the standard release. Hmm. I hope that artwork with the iron throne is actually the artwork on the release!

Those scenes are grainy because they were taken from the unaired pilot which was shot on film.

It's on the commentary track for the first episode. They point out which scene was from the original pilot and which wasn't and which, in some cases, is a mix of the two IE one half of a conversation being the original pilot and the other half shot during actual production (due to the character being recast).

Some of the pilot (grainy parts) were shot on 35mm before they switched to the Arri Alexa for the first few seasons.

It's pretty common knowledge if you follow the making-ofs of the show.

Looks like minor upgrade in resolution. BD already looked stellar.

There is no upgrade in resolution.

It's pretty much strictly HDR and it shows okay in those screenshots.
