I don't want Atmos, pimped up 5.1, 6.1 nor 7.1 - just give me the original (lossless) audio track, married to a (faithfully) restored image.

I'd be down for updated mixes for both Star Wars and Halloween. And every movie in existence for that matter. Audio should not be stuck in the limitations of its era.

But taking a movie that's always had just the one OG audio track, resolutely mono, and uprating it into 7.1 is bound to be more contentious. Saying that, it's not the most sacrilicious upmix I've ever heard and if they'd just used the same stingers as the mono (like with Annie's death) I'd have even less to grumble about.
I still think that Annie stinger is a mistake. The three other times that we hear that stinger (or is it four?) sound the same as it does in the mono. I believe that was the only time in the film that a stinger sounds different.

Which is what makes it more annoying, in a way. "Why don't we change the stinger when [picks name out of a hat] Annie gets killed?"

You may have adopted the wrong format.

They've tried but he blew them off when they made an offer and refused to discuss it further. Publicly, he's said he wants points on a release. I mean, good luck with that. I'd like to see the footage too but I'm not sure how much widespread appeal there really is for many hours of silent outtakes.

And from what I understand that footage doesn’t really contain any scenes that weren’t used in the film. So probably all it amounts to is another two versions of the movie that could be recreated using alternate takes. Maybe there are some bloopers but as you say there’s no sound so why would it be worth that much?

What does “he wants points on a release” mean?

Points means residuals, doesn't it? Meaning he wants a percentage of each and every copy sold that contains his footage.

Which one? The fright wig, alien eyes or CGI? They're all hot garbage!

The Halloween 6 mask used in the opening is fine, the rest are terrible.
