I also own the workprint. And while it's certainly nice to have, the pacing suffers IMO. Wish that ear cutting scene would have stayed intact though (as well as all other small violent extensions).
the homeless dude getting shot up in the middle of the street is crazy because I honestly have no idea how Woo thought he'd get an R-rating with that scene - the guy gets some twenty something bullets in his chest, stomach and shoulders all in lovely slow motion --- it's literal overkill ~ while MI:2 isn't overtly violent as 'Hard Target' he certainly applied his trademark over the topness to some questionable extremes.

I think Brad Bird said he designed it so the shifting aspect ratios to be exclusively in IMAX theatres. And he’s the one who should have final say on that.

The scope version we have on the Blu-ray is great and I wouldn’t want to lose it in favour of the VAR version (now if it came as an option where I can chose which one I want to watch, then I’d be interested.

Nice.

Always liked this series.

Can also probably count on all of them having Dolby Vision as well.

I've read there was much more footage that he shot for M: I 2, also more violence than what was left in the movie as we know it. I don't think M: I 2 would be suitable for the same amount of violence there was in Hard Target though, but it certainly would be interesting to see what was cut.

Just give me a proper transfer for 1 and the IMAX VAR on 4 and I'll be happy. But of course I'll buy em all.

I was hoping this series would get the 4K treatment to coincide with Fallout’s release. I really wish they would release the whole series in a set, as opposed to individual releases. But either way, the UHD discs will be going straight into my M:I Ultimate Collection SteelBook case to replace the regular Blu-rays. I’m assuming Fallout will get a BB exclusive 4K SteelBook as well.

Hopefully much needed 4K remasters of the first three and not 2K upscales.

I'm hoping for a box set from the UK like the Transformers one

and oh yeah, them doves *chuckle* *guffaw* (eye roll) I seem to remember a TV comedy skit around the time of 'Face/Off' that lampooned every Woo cliche ~ including the doves.

I haven't jumped on the 4k bandwagon yet but if the regular blu rays are remastered I'll pick these up. Are the regular blu rays included with 4k releases usually remastered or do they just use the existing blu ray?

Give us this in 4k!!!
Didn’t know there was a less cut international release either. Is the international cut on BD anywhere?

I know it’s not going to happen, but if they could restore the MPAA cuts on MI:2 that would be amazing. The action scenes are all that movie has going for it and they don’t flow nearly as well as they should as a result.

If I'm not mistaken, the US Blu-ray has the less cut international version?

Fallout is supposed to be getting a 3D theatrical release so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a 3D blu ray, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them all in 4K.

Just realized these likely won't have the exclusive bonus discs for 4 and 5. (I think 3 had an exclusive DVD as well but I'm not 100% sure? Either way I know I only have the 2-disc BD.) Paramount has been great about including extra bonus discs but not exclusive discs, and the MI ones have been really good, so anyone who has those should hold onto em.

Yes, thankfully we were given the international release of Hard Target on Blu-ray. Although it's a few extra minutes of film, it makes it feel more action packed. Having the VHS and DVD version for so long, it was great seeing this cut on Blu-ray. I have the Workprint version, so it was a nice surprise the first time I saw it. Although I feel like the version we have now flows a lot better, even if a few action scenes are missing. Better ending as well imo over the workprint.

Glad to hear these films are coming to UHD, although I'm just interested in parts 3-5. The third one is in need of a new master, my favorite one out of all the films in this series and the first one I will upgrade.

Part 4, I really hope they decide to include the Imax scenes with the shifting aspect ratio. Not sure if the director is still against it since he only wanted that to be shown in Imax screens. I know it's not the full native Imax image, but it works really well regardless.

Yep, I said a similar thing in the Fallout thread, the action scenes really are all the movie has going for it and they're almost nonsensical because they've been hacked up so much.

I really wouldn't bet on it. I'd be over the moon if it happened but Brad Bird has made his distaste for presenting IMAX versions on video quite clear, he's done two now (GP and Tomorrowland) and both lacked the IMAX ratio on home video.
