my fingers are crossed for a French 'UHD+Bluray+3D bluray disc' deluxe edition as it seems the norm now

Really liked this film. Should make a gorgeous UHD, especially the final battle.

you are under the impression that people have any semblance of social responsibility these days.

This film just hit the theater today. No one has any business discussing major plot points out in the open like that. So when someone shows you who they are, believe them, and instantly add them to your ignore list. They are adults that demonstrate sociopathic behavior and it's never going suddenly change or get fixed by them.

back to the main topic: I can't wait to see this film. Might have to make a solo trip to the theater during next week.

Glancing at Top Reviewers at Rotten Tomatoes the negative reviews aren't overly negative and the positive reviews aren't overly positive.

Spielberg is competent like usual, lots of visuals, lots of nostalgia. It sounds like a movie I'd be interested in.

I doubt I'll see this in the theater though there was lots of Fandango cash with movies at Best Buy. I think The Iron Giant had $8 coupon and the movie itself only cost $5 on blu-ray. $13 for LOTR trilogy with $8 coupon. So I (or you) could basically see this for free at a matinee.

This is going to be a Day 1 Buy, the movie was spectacular! I’m also going for the 3D as well!

solid 8.5, was entertained throughout the WHOLE film, which is hard for me to experience, as even mindless action popcorn flicks like pacific rim, transformers etc lose me at some parts. but this from beginning to end was great. day 1 buy. bet the oasis looks amazing in HDR.

One of the best 3D popcorn films I've seen in a long long time. 4K and 3D purchase day one. Back again for another watch tonight

Pretty excited to see this on Saturday. I'm expecting this to be one of those rare movies that will actually be better that the book. Also going to be my first time watching something in Dolby Cinema, so I'm fully expecting to crap my pants.

Love this box art.

After the promotional art did the rounds on social media I was half hoping this movie would be the thing that finally make all the nostalgia reference pop culture junkies cry uncle, but I think it'll be cool. Day 1.

Looking forward to this and all the characters in the 'system'. Not sure what to call it since won't see it in theater! Son and wife wouldn't like it so much haha.

I'm most interested to see if this movie can be appreciated by nerds like myself. Or if its going to attempt to repeatedly smack me over the head with the "remember when" nostalgia hammer like the other tryhard shows that pander to 30-40somethings that want to recapture magic from that one time they had their neighbor's horse's Nintendo in elementary school.

It's a spectrum of insufferableness in which Stranger Things (AKA Nostalgia, The Show) really toed the line at times, and The Big Bang Theory is the very worst. The people that watch these shows now were the same ones making fun of us in grade school for wearing a Star Wars shirt. It's borderline offensive when normal people choose to latch onto these things. These shows/films tend to cater to the lowest common denominator for box office dollars. You really can't get any sort of accurate review on the film until you finally see it for yourself. Actual gamers usually hate this sort of thing.

Can't wait to see if it's legit or not. I know which way I'm already leaning
[Show spoiler] knowing that it's references-based. It's going to be best to go into this one skeptical of the worst, while hoping for the best. I don't expect many of you to agree nor understand; we've touched on some of these things before in other threads.

I'm sorry but this film was terrible. I read the book multiple times with my 2 friends and was so looking forward to seeing this on screen and all 3 of us almost walked out. Nothing from the book came close. All the 3 quest were wrong and nothing in the book. One of the high five members dies, they never met till the very end, this needs a remake and a proper way to till the story. All in all Read the book and don't see the movie or watch the movie or don't read the book.

Did you miss the part where people were saying be courteous and mark spoilers (even though one of your spoilers is just a book spoiler, not something from the movie) As for for your complaints about the quests, they were unable to secure the required rights and thus changes were necessary.

My takeaways from Ready Player One:
It's big, it's dumb, and it's highly entertaining!
[Show spoiler]Stanley Kubrick is rolling over in his grave, even if that was the best sequence in the movie.
Tye Sheridan looks great in rubber.

Wow, there are a ton of spoilers (like big ones) in this thread. The movie just came out guys, be respectful of that. Anyways, I saw the film, it was way better than I expected it to be (I expected it to be good because it's Spielberg). This wasn't on my radar for UHD, but now I've got to have it.

Also, I would have never guessed that this movie was shot mostly on film (for the real world stuff obviously), it looks so clean throughout. Apparently, this has a 4K DI as well (according to IMDB), despite the huge amount of VFX this film has. I wonder if all the Oasis stuff was rendered in 4K or just upscaled.

I ADORED the book and it’s in my top 5. I was analyzing every single scene in how it related to the book and I was letdown. My best word of advice I have to anyone is to forget the book and turn off your mind for a couple hours. You’ll likely enjoy it more than I did.

I've just come back from the movie with my kids and it was truely an amazing movie for someone like me who was a teen in the 80's....it's going to be a long list of nods and references if you want to make one.
From start to finish it keeps you up and awake.
Day one UHD and 3D for me, as the 3D was really good. I imagine the UHD will be amazing, I'm sure.

And I would be REALLY pissed with the spoilers that some people here posted.....I hope the mods delete them or they come to their senses (and place spoiler tags) that they're taking away big surprises for folks who haven't seen the movie.
It's taken him a while, but Spielberg has that special magic back that he lost for so long.
