If there's new bonus material to be had, then I'm all for it. But I don't need legacy content reworked in any way. I liked the presentation/layout they've had since the DVDs.

I'll definitely get it if it has the extended cuts in 4k. Been quite a while since I've watched this. Hopefully 2 4Ks per movie like the extended blus. Maybe someday I'll even watch all the bonus features.

Oh my god! The Lord of the Rings trilogy in Extended Cuts on 4K BD is one of my most wanted and anticipated UHD releases. Day one without doubt!

Almost had a heart attack when I saw the thread title.

These are my favorite films of all time and they are what got me into watching films as a hobby, to say I’m excited is an understatement.

Even if they don’t do any new special features, compiling the three bonus discs for each movie into a single bonus Blu-ray for each movie would be a welcome update.

What Jackson wants to do is rework the existing stuff, yes, but add in more stuff we've never seen before as they shot hundreds and hundreds and hours of BTS footage, as well as finally seeing deleted scenes and outtakes.

Ah ok, that would be fine. Just port over all that SD content onto a single BD-50.

Yeah adding stuff is fine, I just don't need existing stuff reworked. Honestly, they can omit legacy stuff for all I care. It's not like I'll be selling off my DVDs and BDs anyway lol

What I mean is that he wants to reshape the LOTR EE extras into the same style as the Hobbit EEs, this would mean new features using stuff we've already seen and stuff we haven't.

What about theatricals? I can buy Extended if they're in the same packages, but if it's only EEs - **** that.

I’m hoping they start with theatricals seeing as extended editions have been getting all the love like the $500 box set, while theatricals are lumped in with the Hobbit theatricals in a $20 combo pack...

Extended WILL happen, so hopefully we can secure theatrical too.

I can't remember the last time I watched any of the theatrical cuts of these movies. The Extended Editions are the only way to go now.

EE - overlong with frequently subpar quality of extra scenes. I can't watch them.

Whilst I would like the theatricals in the set so as to have the lot, if we're having to choose - extended cuts all the way. If they double dip on this and we only get the theatricals in the summer I won't be happy.

Providing we get the extendeds as a minimum, this is massively exciting news.
