I remember hearing this in Dolby Digital EX 6.1 at the theater and it sounded amazing - as far as I can recall not one home video release has retained said mix, nor this one ... ugh, they could have easily remixed it to 7.1

I don't think so if you like a decent sci-fi action thriller and stands up to repeat viewings. It has one of my favourite opening sequences of all time. Proper demo stuff. I'm not going to whine about it, but I'd have loved an atmos mix.

Theatrical Dolby EX is 5.1 channels with a matrixed centre rear, this information is usually carried over to the home mix even if it's not flagged. Did you never try engaging PLIIx or Neo:6 or whatever to see if the centre rear was there?

I don't think it was matrixed but I could be wrong. Peter Jackson's "King Kong" was the same situation, thankfully Universal did a decent DTS-X remix with the new core 7.1 bed.

Kinda surprised that Universal isn’t releasing this one themselves, and also that there doesn’t seem to be a mention of the 20th anniversary (at least not that I saw). I was unsure from the description, but does anyone know if Dark Fury will be in HD at last?

[edit] And their home codecs didn't have more than 5.1 discrete channels of information until the DD+/TrueHD era, which is why theatrical DD EX was matrixed in the first place: typical Dolby backwards compatibility with regular 5.1 systems. Last edited by Geoff D; 05-29-2020 at 04:09 PM. |

I know, I'm kidding myself but I want to believe.
Yeah, the current releases are terrible. I would take the first tremors on 4K. |
