I agree that Braveheart is better.

Same here even knowing about it going in I had a hard time pinpointing this exact frame in motion lol. Had it not been mentioned I never would have noticed. I also tested various scenes in DV on my buddy's C7 but totally forgot to look for that one to see if it stood out.

If I remember rightly it was right at the end of the battle (where he tells one of the english soldiers to bend over and kiss his arse) after Wallace won. The blue war paint wasn’t floating off his face like the screen shot was showing. The paint just looked cracked and moved slightly over the right side of his nose while he was talking. Nothing major.

I watched this tonight and thought it was a great transfer. The lush greens in the fields and mountains really impressed me. Tremendous detail presented throughout the movie, particularly face and clothing. Very satisfied with how it turned out. IMO it's not quite as impressive as Saving Private Ryan, but it's another excellent transfer from Son....errrr Paramount.

I haven't watched Gladiator yet but I did watch a complete viewing of Braveheart yesterday with a buddy of mine.

He had never seen Braveheart before so he thought it was quite good and amazing. The 4k impressed him and he was immersed for the most part.

I had a different reaction to the movie. It might not be the movie I once loved I felt the image was average and I couldn't get into it as much as I had in the past.

It was once my #1 movie all time and now I think it has dropped below my top 25.

I feel a bit sad.

The image overall is very neutral and the grain is superb except for one fight scene where you can see the over saturation.

I will re-visit this again(maybe to compare against my blu-ray)... but unfortunately I didn't get the awesome joy feeling that I once did with my dvd and blu-ray purchases in the past.

While the detail is good and the print is clean, the same could be said about the BR.
I am dissapointed by this release though as watching it side by side, it is yet another victim of the lazy Teal/Orange hollywood wash they do on everything. It isn't the worse of the recent releases (the indoor scenes of Die Hard had much more of a teal wash and the Terminator 2 change was extreme) but it is very noticeble when watching it side by side. Colors like the grass look much less natural.
If you don't watch it side by side you might not notice it, especially as we've been conditioned now that the orange/teal is just the 'movie look' (somewhat like 24fps which also sucks but for different reasons).

You might not like the colours skin tones grass etc in Braveheart 4k blu ray but it is definitely more accurate colour wise than the blu ray. Even all the reviews say the colours and skin tones are natural better than the blu ray.

#1 to 25 if you love a movie you will always love a movie even if they botch the transfer on the disc! Terminator 2 is one of my favourite movies ever and i still love it even though the 4k disc was a turd! Braveheart is probably even better picture quality than it was in the cinema 23 years ago and also better sound with Dolby Atmos. Braveheart is still in my top ten movies of all time #FREEDOM

Ya that's a little extreme lol but I mean people do change as they get older and taste can shift along with that I guess. I've seen this flick so many times that the emotional impact is definitely pretty diluted now as opposed to when I was a kid. The "too much of a good thing effect" if you will. I still stand by my opinion that it's one of the best well rounded cinematic achievements in just about every category though.

As someone who saw this in the theater in 1995 and declared it his favorite movie and then counted down the days to the laserdisc release (which I never watched), then counted down the days to the DVD (only to be disappointed with a dim transfer and didn't watch it), got excited to own it on Bluray when it came out (and checked out the first couple chapters like I did with the previous releases - but never watched it), I was very excited to get this on UHD but expected to be disappointed. Guess what? I wasn't. I was blown away. I've only watched the same few chapters that I always watch though, but one of these days I need to watch the whole damn thing again; it's only been 23 years, lol.

That's exactly why there are certain movies I try not to watch very often, and this is one of em.

Maybe watching it with someone you care about put a lot of pressure to perform on it, so you became hyper aware and critical of it.

To be fair #1 was when I was in my early 20's. I am almost 40 now and it hasn't been my #1 in quite a few years.

I would have said it was in my top 10 last time I watched it (4-5 years ago) but now I would say it is around 23.

The transfer has nothing to do with the review. Braveheart was not in my top 25 Blu-rays for AQ/PQ.

The Atmos is quite good though. I did enjoy it.

That is a good point. You are probably right.

Nothing beats watching a movie alone the way you want to watch it.

My best home theater experiences were in this way.

One final point - I do not have my new display calibrated yet so that could be part of it. I am using my own settings based off of a setup disc but it isn't the same.

I will get things calibrated once I solve the remaining issues with my system.

Question: Watching a film, is it a personal experience or a social entertainment gathering; from Hollywood's point of view? The film directors, what is their main "mojo"; make films to entertain the masses, the movie executives, the most tickets selling, or for their own ego satisfaction?

When Mel Gibson directed and acted and collaborated on Braveheart, what was his prime directive?

Last, the intended impact from a filmmaker, what is the average percentage of that reach?
Can we have a different impression on a film from when we were sixteen and when we were sixty? Is time elapsed affecting our film critic? Or are the songs remaining the same?
