Even worse they removed DV for the steelbook set. I decided to watch this last night in honor of Hackman. He definitely steals the show.

Seriously?

There is going to be no 8K format. Rumor is they are sitting on a remaster, but it wasn't released in the boxset for whatever reason.

What would be really amazing would be to recut a version of both this and II into one film as originally considered. Use most elements from the Donner cut. Will never happen though. A 3.5 hour epic would be great.

Yeah why should the discussion go “off-topic” by discussing the news of one of the stars of the film when we could continue complaining about something wrong with the release that we’ve all been aware of for a year?

It was not considered as one film, it was always intended to be two. They did intend for both to have principal photography completed at the same time though, but with the delays and cost overruns they decided to finish what they needed for the first film as soon as possible.

Yes, it's the 70MM 5.1 track that was removed.

Wasn’t that on the individual release, but not the boxed or something like that?

No, WB updated transfer for the collection set. They had secretly removed the 70MM 5.1 track from the 2018 4K release without making changes to the Audio specs on the case art nor giving it a new UPC barcode.

The best Lex ever. Just like Christopher Reeve was the best Superman/ Clark Kent. What a film that was. Don't know why they are even bothering with this year's attempt.

Because us Superman fans want a new movie. Can’t wait until July 10th.

Cannot agree more here. They've tried a few times to redo Superman and it was a disaster. The first two Donner films are all-time greats.

They remake and reboot everything so Superman is no different. I am not surprised at all . It wont be the last time either.

Yep - thats why I still have not bought any Superman stuff in 4K. I only like the first couple Donner/Lester films. I cant buy a whole set, especially when the 4Ks are dodgy.

If we get NEW 4k transfers that are really good then I will instantly buy them. Separately though, please.

Some do, some dont. Maybe it will be good. Trailers are a mixed bag, in my opinion.

I love Superman 78. But that movie is outdated and that third act really sucks watching it as an adult.

That seems harsh but the 3rd act was really beyond the capabilities of 78 FX.
Starting with the campy missile retargeting nonsense the movie losses a lot of momentum. Never was or will be a fan of the time reversal ending -- in either movie!
Casting will probably never be topped but there is for sure room for modern takes on the character.

'78 is one of my favorite movies. I agree, a little momentum is lost for a bit in the third act and it could have been edited differently. The time reversal thing is a little too much for me, but in some way it all works itself out by the end making this the best comic book movie ever. I'm still waiting for a modern of Superman take that even comes close and with the heart and soul of this one.

They'll never surpass the '78 film, it was lightning in a bottle. Just like TESB in 1980, and Blade Runner in 1982. The industry just can't heed the lesson of cinema history. You can't go back, you have to move forward. Find new stories, characters, books, the world has moved on, move with it. Otherwise you're just standing still.

Nope Superman is timeless, that’s why he’s been around and popular for over 85 years. Can’t wait until July 10th
