Random Friday stuff. Found a cool edit where they remove all the characters. Almost feels like some arthouse type of film when seen this way.

The question is when. Friday the 13th will get one as well. These series are sure fire milks. Happens every time on every format—usually multiple times. It’s the great part of being a horror fanatic; you can be sure that almost everything is coming. |

So, after all these years, I've finally upgraded both Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981) from DVD to Blu-ray.
Actually, I got the 4K+Blu-ray combo from Lionsgate for Halloween (1978), and that's what I wanted to inquire about here, so I'm hoping some of you experts can help me out. I've already looked all over the internet and cannot find any site mentioning that the DVD is actually a different cut of the film than the 4K and the blu-ray releases. All anyone lists or talks about is the 91 minute theatrical cut and the 104 minute Extended TV cut, but the Anchor Bay/Starz DVD releases are 92 minutes. Three of their releases have 92 min. listed on the back of the cases -- the ones with the Dean Cundey approved transfer (described as being from the original camera negative) -- and there are definitely minor differences in the film's cut, but other than the transfer and that one minute time difference, there is no mention of it being a different cut anywhere at all, and none of the later blu-rays with the 91 min. version mention anything different about the film's cut from what was on the DVDs. I didn't watch, compare, and analyze both versions back to back enough to make a comprehensive list of the differences, but I can definitely say there were some scenes with dialogue that made it in one cut and not the other, and one particular thing is at the end, where Loomis shoots Michael Myers and he goes over the balcony. In the 92 min. version, there is an extra upward shot of him falling back from a slightly different angle before it quickly cuts to another angle of him falling. That first angle shot is not in the 91 minute version. To be clear, the 91 minute version is actually 90 minutes and 56 seconds (1:30:56), while the 92 minute version is actually 91 minutes and 2 seconds (1:31:02). So why can't I find anything about these two different cuts? And which is the actual theatrical version? |

The only time I remember seeing a different angle of Michael falling off the balcony was at the beginning of Halloween II, which was shot for that movie. I’ve never heard of the original 1978 movie having another cut besides the TV version that was released in 1981.

One is 91 minutes (the two you mentioned are actually the same cut... one just has a tad more slack black footage at the end of the video file), and the other is an extended cut (101 minutes) that is the theatrical version with additional scenes (NOTE: These are NOT deleted scenes, but additional footage shot specifically for television, to pad out the runtime per NBC’s request, as well as tie it into Halloween II) added. This footage was shot with the Halloween II production. Notable is the addition of “sister” on the door in Michael’s room at Smith’s Grove, as Michael is NOT intended to be related to Laurie in the original film. The actual television version was accidentally released by Media on VHS once, but outside of that, has never officially been available. |

Edit: I see gj217 has beat me to the punch. After reading this post, I was annoyed enough to pull out my THX DVD to compare it to the Blu-ray. (Still don't have the 4K. Get the original mono on there and we'll talk.) Last edited by cuzzin; 04-26-2021 at 04:42 AM. |

My mistake, I just watched the ending again on both the DVD and the blu-ray and saw that it was indeed the same. The angle shot I thought was missing was there after all. My eyes and memory failed me, and my wife (who obviously didn't know this movie as much as she claimed) influenced me to believe the blu-ray was different from the DVD she had watched, because she didn't recall certain pieces of dialogue. Also, with the different runtimes, it made me think there actually was two different cuts (besides the Extended TV cut, that is). Until I sit down and watch both films side by side, I concede I was wrong.

This 4K is the best that I have ever seen Halloween. I have so many different formats and versions, but this 4K is the best for picture quality and sound. I still like my laser disc of Halloween and thought that it could not look any better until now. Halloween fan forever!!!

Lionsgate will be responsible for 4 and 5. As for 6, 7, or 8, no Miramax film has hit UHD yet. Those might take a while unless Scream can work something out with Paramount and BEiN (who now own Miramax). |

Return and Revenge... probably a long shot, since they're with Lionsgate. Curse onward I wouldn't hold my breath. |

The Mono Bros sounds like a gang. They would wear matching jackets with this logo on it.
