Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum though a longtime site fan. Question, and please forgive me if it's been asked. I read at a review elsewhere that the 1080p disc on the 5-film 4K collection contains the Special Edition of SUPERMAN. (I don't mean the Extended TV Cut, but the Special Edition cut prepared by Donner for the old DVD, the one with a couple of extra scenes and Commentary by him and Tom Mankiewicz). Is this the actual case?
Here's the link to the review if you want to see it:
https://criticalpopcorn/2023/superman
The reason I'm asking is that I consider this Special Edition my preferred cut, and though it's not on 4K I'd love to have it on the pack even on 1080p.
Thank you for your time!

We just had the same discussion on the Superman 5-film collection thread. That critical popcorn review seems to refer to the UK Steelbook 4K Collection. dvdcompare says the UK 2023 Steelbook has the theatrical 143m Blu-ray on the UK Steelbook, not the 151m Blu-ray which apparently is on the individual UK 2018 4K release (and I guess on the 2021 re-release?) :

[Show spoiler]

DISC ONE (Blu-ray 4K)

DISC TWO (Blu-ray)
* The Film - Expanded Edition (1080p)

But on the UK 2023 4K Collection it says:

Quote:
Blu-ray ALL United Kingdom - Warner Home Video [2023 Release]
5-Film Collection
DISC ONE "Superman" (Blu-ray 4K)
* The Film - Theatrical Version

DISC TWO "Superman" (Blu-ray)
* The Film - Theatrical Version

On our site's listings it appears to be the same. Unless someone who has it (the UK 4K 5-F Steel) comes and say 'it's true, the 4K Steel has the SE BD' I would investigate further. Specially since it seems a new edition of the Steellbook is coming soon with corrected audios (the 1978 theatrical) at least on the US and Canada for now. (TBC with actual discs or announcement).

Now, like mentioned in that thread, if you want the 151m SE on Blu, it was released recently with the 188m one in a 2-cuts edition (or there might be older issues/copies of the individual SE BD release around on the amazons, you could check listings here (select on the top right to see all countries) :

Checking further on the 2-pack, I see:

US
Superman: The Movie Blu-ray 151m SE with DTS HD-MA 5.1 on the back

UK
Superman: The Movie Blu-ray 151m SE with Dolby Digital 5.1 on the back

In the UK apparently this 151m DD 5.1 SE has been re-released a few times, but (in the UK) only on the 2011 5-movie Anthology with DTS HD-MA 5.1? (in the US, the DTS MA SE BD is the 2011 remaster, in some of the Anthologies)

Further confusing the issue, submissions over time have had member submit "day month and year" Release Dates to editions that have been released only in collections but not individually so at first look they look that they have but are out of print or something; or instead of the bundled collections having the 0 movie ID, they have the Superman movie ID (which makes the non-individually released ones NOT appear as bundled in the collections on the "releases" page, but instead for example on this UK 2-pack they appeared as 3 separate releases, not "these 2 are included in this bundle below" them in their entries. etc. Or some mixed assigned bundles (for example I just saw the 2011 SE on a 2006 set's bundle). I've fixed those that I caught. There's probably more. It will take a couple of days for the server to sync together linking the bundles.

These Superman disc releases have a plethora of English Sound Formats changed, added and dropped depending the edition, year, bundle collection and country

In any case I came here to mention, before I saw you new member post, that amazon.us is reporting that 700+ copies of the 2021 Superman: The Movie 4K have been ordered this last month, the one that doesn't have the 5.1 track, while the new 2025 Steel Coll. may have it. TBC of course with actual discs or an announcement.

Continuing with the 20 year accumulation of detritus specs/releases clean-up,

this one US '143m theatrical',

which is part of these US sets:

2011 ——————————————— 2017 <movie money

is the DTS HD-MA 5.1 track, the SE mix, conformed to the 143m runtime?

I also discovered this Blu-ray entry which does not exist, at least not in this Mandela planet, as it is only a DVD set (ASIN B000J10ERE UPC 012569819122). No?

So I've stripped it bare bones, but haven't deleted it as it is in 50 collections. Don't know if it's because it was a wish, or because they have the DVD and added this to their collections instead of the true DVD entry.

I guess I should PM the 50 of them.

I found the superman the movie action figures. They had Superman, Lex, Zod and White robe Jor-el. they did not have Lois or the black robe for Jor-el.

Thank you, I am so glad I'm not the only one with an aversion to this grotesque knock-off grotesk when used anachronistically.

Quick question: is the theatrical 5.1 track from the UHD the same as on the Blu-ray with the theatrical version? Or was it a new mix?

Absolutely a new mix: from the original 6-track 70mm print master

Read this for more information:

https://www.in70mm.com/presents/1976...t_43/index.htm

The Blu-ray 5.1 is not the original mix, it's the 2001 DVD remix in lossless format

Does no one actually read a thread on this site and just jump to the last page asking for answers, frigging heck! Read the thread for crying out loud, before asking it's tiresome repeating the same stuff repeatedly!

vBulletin does sticky posts in a thread. I've been asking about them but nobody's done anything about them.

An uncompressed upgrade of the 70mm 5.1 audio and the correction of a glitch in the opening credits reel.

It's been a thing for the last few years, it seems. Posters do exactly what you explained and I have no idea if people are just lazier now or what. Regardless, it's annoying AF.

It's gotten worse because nobody even tries anymore. It used to be that people would only read or refer to the last couple of pages in a thread. Now they just drop in and post without even reading anything in the thread at all.

Looks like either way I have to purchase this new release of STM. My 2018 UK 4K UHD just packed in. It freezes at 1hr 37 mins and won't budge. This is the 3rd time its happened with Warner 100gb discs. Had to replace the Shining and Goodfellss before. They had the same issue.

Which UHD player do you own to see these discs freeze up on your setup?

The search feature here sucks, and the older the thread the more arduous the task. I’d look inward since you’re the one it bothers.
