I'm pretty excited assuming this has the original mono. Hopefully they go all out with extra features and reverse original art. I'm itching to upgrade from my 35th blu in that horrible digibook.

My copy of the AB 2007 release only had a Dolby Surround 5.1 and a PCM 5.1 track. The audio commentary might be in mono.

Does Universal now have the original? Maybe they managed to get the rights to it, Return and Revenge...

Yes, give us the extended version with the original mono! The version that was included in the giant boxset only has the 5.1 mix.

Does anybody actually want the TV version? 4:3 aspect ratio, black screens for commercial breaks, content edited for network television...I'm genuinely curious.

Anyway, not sure if we're likely to get everything that's been released over the years for Halloween, but here's a list I've had compiled for a while of what's out there:

COMMENTARY TRACKS:
  • Commentary with John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis (from 2013 Blu-Ray)
  • Commentary with Dean Cundey, Tommy Lee Wallace and Nick Castle (from box set)
  • Archival Commentary with Jamie Lee Curtis, Debra Hill and Jamie Lee Curtis (from Criterion laserdisc, and subsequent releases)

NOTABLE AUDIO TRACKS:
  • Original Mono track (from Box Set)
  • Isolated Score & Effects Track (from Criterion laserdisc)

NOTABLE SUBTITLE TRACKS:
  • Fast Film Facts

TELEVISION CUT
  • Original Network Television Broadcast with Commercials (runs for 119 Minutes, and is sourced from a VHS recording - no official release, but has been available on the bootleg market for a while)
  • Television Cut (102 Minutes, was accidentally released on VHS by Media Entertainment in 1984)
  • Extended Cut (102 Minutes, was released on DVD by Anchor Bay and was included on the Box Set's bonus disc utilizing the 35th anniversary transfer with SD inserts for the additional footage)

ALTERNATE FOOTAGE:
  • Raw footage of the shoot and test footage of the opening tracking scenes is owned by someone who supposedly is charging a lot for it

FEATURETTES:
  • A&E's The Inside Story: Halloween (90 Minutes) - Was released on DVD with a male narrator in the US, and on DVD with a female narrator in the UK. Archive.org has an HD version of it utilizing the male narrator.
  • Halloween: A Cut Above the Rest (2003 DVD, 2007 Blu-Ray)
  • AMC Backstory: Halloween (45 Minutes; No official release)
  • Halloween Unmasked (from THX DVD; included on the bonus disc in the box set)
  • Interview with Moustapha Akkad (included on the bonus disc in the box set)

CONVENTIONS & PANELS:
  • On Location: 25 Years Later Featurette (2003 DVD)
  • Horror’s Hallowed Grounds: Halloween (Bonus disc from box set)
  • Horror's Hallowed Grounds: Bus Tour Pilot (Bonus disc from box set)
  • 25 Years of Terror: Halloween Panel Discussion (25 Years of Terror DVD)
  • The Night She Came Home (2013 Blu-Ray)
  • 40 Years of Terror: Halloween Panel Discussion (No official release; YouTube recording)

Or was there a very early BD that had it as well? I own 3 BD releases of it (2007, Shout’s box set discs, and the 35th Anniversary mediabook).
The 2007 BD has the original mono in a lossy format whereas the mono in the boxset is lossless.

Yes? I'd like it included for completists' sake, and it's worth noting that the actual TV cut the first film featured some alternate takes that weren't utilized for the theatrical film.

There’s one person in the thread for the complete collection that I remember wanting the TV version with all the edited parts that removed nudity and some of the violence. Useless version in my opinion. The death scenes of Annie and Bob don’t show any stabbing. How can you watch Halloween without that shot of Michael holding up the glinting knife before he stabs Bob?

One TV cut that I think is worthwhile is the Halloween II one. Not because it’s better but because there are so many awkward changes that give you a good laugh.

Don May DOES NOT own this footage. A friend of his does and Don helped said friend go through it and do some test scans years back, but it's not Don's footage and as such, he's not asking any money for it to be used.

And as I understand it, said friend doesn't want "to charge so much" for it, but he wants SOMETHING since he saved this footage from being trashed when he won the bid & paid for it from the storage facility where it had been abandoned at, but Akkad doesn't want to pay him anything at all.

Chris

Anchor Bay was owned by Starz and no longer had what made it special in the late 90s/early 2000s, and Lionsgate didn't want to bother with new releases.

I'm not the user in question, but I'd like to have it for completists sake. If it gets left off, so be it, but it'd be a nice bonus. Particularly since it has some alternate footage in it.

Correct, you aren’t the person I was referring to you. Your reason for wanting it makes sense to me. The reason this other person wanted it sounded like he preferred it over the theatrical version because it removed the nudity (which there’s so little of). No offense “other person” if you read this.

Speaking of TV cuts, if the Halloween II UHD is ever realized, the TV cut included should have the additional footage that was accidentally excluded from the Scream releases (and also the original theatrical teaser).

What’s the alternate footage? The stuff that was shot in 1982 for the network TV broadcast?

The Shout box set containing the sequels? It has the original theatrical mono. It’s their standalone release of Halloween (1978) that does not.

I know about the added scenes (Carpenter admits he wrote/filmed those because money talks). It seems that what most of the TV Cut fans really want is the unedited theatrical version with these additional scenes added. I, personally, don't want this but it would be better than the "edited for television" version.
