Yeah i fell in the rabbit hole when i bought all the stuff on Black Friday. Plus getting all the Smart Home stuff...its a pretty big hole! I do love telling Google to turn on Home Theater and everything turns on for me.

I thought Gamma selection wasn't optional on HDR and DV modes?

As for the disc, it looked pretty good but the DV floating blacks issue reared its ugly head during the all-black day count frames and end credits, and during the climax in the soundproofed basement when it went completely dark for a few moments. It seems this issue will never be completely fixed.

I did go back and check it out in plain HDR, and while the black issues were fixed, overall the picture quality was better with DV. There must always be a compromise.

Bond, you haven't installed the latest firmware for your C6? That fixes the floating black bars issue.

It’s not for the OLED but the Vizio’s panels allow you to switch.

Yes, I have installed the latest firmware on both the C6 and Oppo. It fixed a lot of other nasty issues (Saving Private Ryan), but apparently not everything.

Found this used for $9.99 at my local disc replay. I can't wait to watch this! No ATMOS, but I'm sure it will still shake my house.

Gotta have Atmos. Not a soundbar or other fake versions of immersive surround. Tracks like these need at least overhead speakers irrespective of a system greater than 7.1.4, which would really open them up.

Gravity, Blade Runner 1 & 2, and on and on are best when fully decoded.

Well, I will have to make do. I don't have a soundbar btw.

Never felt like a silent film. Not with that Zimmer-esque score.

That was essentially the point, which is why it worked so well. Regardless, I can understand that it may not be everyone's style. To each his own!

Saw it last weekend, very entertaining movie. Krasinki knocked it out of the park!

It could have been better. There were a ton of inconsistencies and been-there-done-that tropes.

It's fun if you turn your brain completely off and let the Atmos track do the work. But... you gotta have Atmos.

But that could be said for practically all movies nowadays. There were plenty of aspects of the film that were unique, though. Emily Blunt's character going into labor with the monster in proximity and trying to remain silent while doing so. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that before.

I think the approach that this movie took to the horror genre was what made this film unique.

I also liked the focus on the family that this film took. You don't see many movies focus on families in the horror genre.

The movie was ok. I think it falls into the category of movies where nearly everyone overhypes it, and then when I see it I just feel disappointed. That said if that movie was my debut and my story, I'd feel pretty good about it. There was just too much stupidity in it though. And what I'd call bad writing to bring about a desired situation. For example
[Show spoiler]the nail. A 1.5" hardwood stair tread with a nail point out of it? In no way does that make sense, especially as it was on the painted foot spots. They could easily have just made it a nail head and had her step on it with her bare heal. Speaking from personal experience, that hurts like a motherxxxxer, way more than a nail through the front part of your foot, which I'm also sadly speaking about from personal experience... Or even just have her stupid floppy dress catch on a nail in the middle and trip her up when she was walking down the stairs carrying laundry. Heck they even showed a shot of her dress dragging over it. The most unforgivable bit though is IMHO the waterfall. They should have used the heck out of it. After I saw they had a local waterfall and they hadn't even tried setting up a shack there was it. No digging caves? And the house was so noise unsafe it was a joke. Nothing packed away, nothing tied down, just waiting to be knocked over.

Anyhow, just too overhyped for me, but still an impressive directorial debut and tale.

definitely a great directing debut for Krasinski which bodes well for his Jack Ryan Amazon series coming in August (I didn't think Krasinski was right for the role but am now more open to him)...but the movie doesn't seem like one I can re-watch multiple times...great video (Dolby Vision) and audio though

Have you seen Hidden (2015) with Alexander Skarsgard?
It's so much like this movie in premise: A family hiding from an unseen enemy, but in a bomb shelter.
Also, it has a nonsensical ending that barely holds together... but pulls it off "just enough".

Additionally, it was written and directed by the Duffer brothers (Stranger Things).
