This has absolutely nothing to do with the capabilities of the formats themselves, though, as you point out. CD can shine and surpass vinyl when it's allowed to, and not handicapped by poorly mastered music.
The early 2000s is when the loudness wars really started and while the horrific loudness tendencies have been really dying off ever since, there is still a few albums being rereleased today where they have noise reduced issues that ruin the dynamics. It's not exactly the same thing as loudness which is arguably worse, but it does have a impact on the sound quality overall. The 90s had loads of really great releases of albums that came out before the 90s. If there was any time that you could point to the loudness issues starting in the 90s, i am guessing it would have to be either 98 or 99.

Original artwork and no reverse artwork would be my guess, just like the UHD's of They Live and Prince of Darkness.

You know, for all this conversation about how CD is meant to be so much better, its pretty astonishing how that supposed potential is never utilized.

Hopefully they do the same with H2 and H3, which also have nice posters. H4 has a very lazy poster, so I don't care if that's not used.

I heard that Billy Idol's last few albums are just compressed to hell, which is what the loud war did to the mastering. You kill the dynamic range and just push everything into a narrow decibel range. I have one of Idol's singles from the 2000s, and it's just impossible to listen to because it's just all maxed out and compressed to hell. I can point to a couple of hard rock or metal albums that just ruined themselves with this mastering mentality.

It’s literally manufactured in the exact same way as decades ago which has helped contribute to its underground resurgence and ‘revival’ as mom and pop outfits salvaged the pressing equipment, but disc is more complicated and as volumes continue to drop then replicators are finding it harder to break even, never mind make a profit. Will that tech end up broken up and sold to some budding entrepreneur? Sure I guess, but it’ll be great just to keep Blu and UHD going, to say nothing of them creating yet another format extension which will need millions spent on tech development (codecs etc) & ratification by the 20-odd BDA members, some of whom may not give a shit about disc in 5-10 years.

So I’m not saying that disc won’t still be around for a good while yet. It’s there being yet another format that I just don’t think is possible.

As Nosferatu31 said, I'd expect it to have both a slipcover and cover art of the original poster, with no commissioned art, just like the UHDs of They Live and Prince of Darkness.

Or print out a custom cover. Although maybe if they do end up using some horrid new artwork, they’ll include the original on the reverse?
I already added the Lionsgate UHD to my box set using a 3-disc case, so I'm expecting to just switch it out with the new UHD.

The only problem is that the Lionsgate release already uses the original poster. So Scream might want to use new artwork to prevent confusion on the shelves.

And yet there's constant replication backups and manufacturing issues because most of the plants have shut down. It won't completely go away—yet—until the next generation who use Spotify and Apple Music and own zero CDs or MP3s take over. And the fact that name-brand companies like Samsung and Oppo stopped even manufacturing the PLAYERS to play the media.

But the writing is on the wall more than ever.

A service like Kaleidescape already easily trumps any blu-ray or UHD by offering uncompressed DCPs of films, so that's more the future than a breakable, compressed disc.

Hmm CD's and Vinyl. The First thing that comes to my mind for Vinyl is FAR better packaging and CD better sound quality. Same goes for disc based movies. If they include better audio track selection Original plus surround and better packaging it ain't never going away. Facts.

Who was talking to you?

Wasn't the first poster I saw I was asking a genuine question, and nobody was asking you obviously.
I was interested on what the poster was referring to.
But you do you whoever you think you are #sock

You guys are trying to compare other home video editions of Halloween that were released years ago to a new 4K UHD version. Of coarse it's not going to look like the previous video releases (which is to be expected) because it's 4K UHD with HDR and Dolby Vision. Beside the 4K UHD is the best.

Facts are there are ALREADY better ways to watch movies. I just told you one. Kaleidascape has better PQ and AQ than any disc because it's uncompressed. So thinking a compressed, outdated disc will "NEVER" go away when better technology comes out is absurd and quite laughable.

Remember when CRT TV's were the "best" you could get, and those still went away to new technology? Gosh, its crazy to think about.

Yes I assumed—as I’m sure most people here did—that by “original poster” he was referring to the U.K. poster, as that is the one most people think of when they think of Halloween’s original poster and key art.
