The UHD Blu-ray seems to have less (or sometimes the same) detail, less contrast and less brightness.

Just checked my BR, and the screenshots are correct - much more detail and texture in the BR version of the Clarke shot. Most of the other shots look fine though with better colors and depth.

Don't judge brightness and contrast by SDR conversions.

But raw image detail, surely. This looks like RDNR (Random Digital Noise Redution TM.) once again, as there is no reason for this shot to be significantly less detailed than on the blu-ray.

I love UHD, but this random noise reduction (and banding) really is frustrating to watch on otherwise strong 4K transfers.

Will wait for a price drop on Black Friday or something merely to check out if the UHD presentation of the season is worth the double dip.

Nearly Great, but Ruined By Episode 7, and 10!

Game of Thrones on 4k looks excellent, and looks like it was going be reference the entire way. However on the 3rd disc, episode 7 the image takes a turn for the worst. The image has blockiness and suffers from scaling issues. Imagine bad anti aliasing, and its like this for the entire episode. The intro looks terrible with the words becoming blocky, and again poor scaling.
The broach on Ned Starcks clothing is so, so, bad.

Episode 8 and 9 are fine, its just episode 7 that looks terrible. Disc 3 needs to be repressed because this is a real let down.

HBO must recall this collection for GAME OF THRONES SEASON ONE ON 4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY

This quality control is unacceptable.
I'm halfway through Episode 7 and so far I've seen NONE of the issues that are mentioned above, ZERO. Everything looks perfectly fine just like episode 1 which I watched prior. I have been scanning the image from top to bottom trying to find any anomalies and I can't find any. Sounds like a faulty disc or issues with your setup. For those thinking of cancelling your order should wait for more reviews. So far it looks great, much better 4K than how Westworld turned out imo.

Watching this off my Panasonic UB900 in HDR10 on my LG C6 OLED 55". Have yet to check this in DV on my Oppo 203.

Edit #1: Finished Episode 7, no problems of any kind. Actually this episode looked rather stunning especially with John at the Watch.

Edit #2: Just finished Episode 10, again no problems mentioned above nor any issues.

All 6 seasons of the Sopranos (with Season 6 really being more like 2 separate seasons) is only $49.99 at Best Buy right now.

Season 1 of GOT 4K RETAILS for $64.99 and is currently $44.96.

So, Hmmmm... The full series of GOT for less than $100 in 2021 or $45 x 8 Seasons individually. What is a guy to do?
The complete series box set of Sopranos didnt drop to $49.99 until Oct 2017. Three years after its release. Before that it fluctuated between $100 and $235 during those 3 years remaining around $235 for most of those 3 years.

So hmmm following that example a complete 8 season box set will be...wait for it...around $300 at least when its released sometime in 2020. Then sometime in 2020 or 2021 it will begin to fluctuate between $300 and $100+ and do that for years. And then it will finally drop below $100 sometime around 2023. I can pay $200+ at once in 2 years or I can wait 5 years and maybe get the box set for $100 or I can get each season as they are released and pay a much more affordable price each time...indeed what is a guy to do?

And like I said we cant compare how an older finished show was released and how GOT will be released. While still popular, Sopranos is not a show currently airing while UHD is coming out. Sopranos was purely a drama with no cinematic scale, no spectacle, it wasnt eye candy, and it didnt have big vfx. I doubt the early seasons of Sopranos even have 2K DIs. GOT totally dwarfs Sopranos budget and scale and cinematic scope. And HBO is currently developing multiple GOT spinoffs and will be using rereleases of GOT for years to promote the spinoff(s) and to milk a property that will continue to grow its fanbase in ways Sopranos cant do at this point.

HBO released GOT seasons 1 - 4 individually on bluray with lossless HD audio, then went back and made "premium" individual releases of seasons 1-4 that included Dolby Atmos tracks, and they still produce and sale both versions of the individual seasons 1-4. They released a box set of seasons 1 & 2, a box set of seasons 1-6, and a box set of seasons 1 - 7 and you can bet they will release a season 1 - 8 box set on bluray in 2020. Clearly HBO doesnt mind releasing GOT repeatedly in various configurations.

If you cant see the difference between GOT and Sopranos and why HBO would be more interested in releasing all of GOT on UHD compared to how HBO treated Sopranos IDK what to tell you.

I bought The Sopranos box set on release in 2014 and it cost £79. Season 1 is still £19.99 on Amazon UK.

GoT 1-7 box set is £89 on Amazon UK. Season 7 alone is £35. It costs £164 to buy all the seasons to date individually today.

The boxset is always more cost effective.

Without the rest of the seasons of Game of Thrones getting announcements of them being released on UHD, I wouldn't have bought just the one season on UHD Blu-ray anyway.

It's a mistake if HBO is testing 4K market by releasing one season. I wouldn't be interested unless all seasons are confirmed to be released over the next several months. Price must drop as well. Most of us have already bought several seasons already, not to mention duplicates for packaging, etc.

So Amazon just sent me an email saying the shipment has been delayed and they don't know when it will be shipped.

And Bill Hunt's review is up: http://thedigitalbits.com/item/game-...son-one-4k-uhd

Positive review with good marks for picture quality from a pretty limited source. Interesting.

I don't understand, the example here shows the UHD is clearly superior with better compression as opposed to the visible mosquito noise Blu.

I've been hearing/reading great things about this release. I think I'm going to pick this up, because I fear if this doesn't sell well, HBO might not continue these. Besides, as some have previously stated, a complete 4K set will probably run around $300. Doing these one at a time makes it a little more affordable.

I'm getting this in part because Season 1 was the only season I bought on Blu-ray that didn't come with a digital copy. So I currently have seasons 2-7 on VUDU.

Add me to this list, despite my having ordered the set back in April. Makes me wonder if WB once again short-shipped Amazon. Were any orders shipped?

So, I never watched this series before—but my girlfriend owned the DVDs, which I seen portions of.

So, watching the 4K Blu-ray right now, and W O W; this baby is gorgeous!
