Only if they include the original mono and fix the aspect ratio issue that’s almost impossible to notice. All previous extras(including boxset exclusive ones) and some new ones would be nice, too.

If they put the same effort they did for the Friday the 13th boxset we should be fine.

If memory serves, I remember reading somewhere in the Halloween Complete Collection that when mixing the Extended scenes in, there was the slightest bit of an adui mixing issue right after Loomis speaks to young Michael as the screen cuts to "Smith's Grove, Illinois". If this is right, hopefully SF corrects it this time around.

FAH just put out a video recommending people follow GeekGab lol One of his images had GeekGab's watermark on it. He also said From Dusk Till Dawn was directed by Tarantino and that Unbreakable came out in the late 90's. Jfc.

I heard Anchor Bay/Lionsgate's distribution rights to Halloween 1, 4 and 5 expired and reverted back to Trancas International Films. First off, when Lionsgate acquired Anchor Bay, they got the video rights to Halloween 1/4/5 renewed and carried over from the previous licence with Trancas. Lionsgate probably couldn't renew and Shout made $,$$$,$$$ offers to Trancas (who they worked with for Hell Night) to swoop them up, so that would make sense.
Yes, Shout have worked with Lionsgate and Miramax for title inclusions in the last Halloween boxset at the time, but that went OOP and only II and III remained in print from their Universal deal. Lionsgate rarely ever sub-licence aside from inclusions in box sets, let alone big titles they control with UHD rights. Also, if H1/4/5 did come from a Lionsgate sub-licence, then we'd be getting another LE boxset and not individual releases. If this is the case, expect the Lionsgate/AB releases to slowly go OOP physically and digital versions get delisted. I also hear that Shout and Dean Cundey did a totally new 4k HDR master from the OCN for Halloween, so it will definitely not be using the 2016 Lionsgate HDR master. Halloween II and Season of the Witch are completely new 4k HDR transfers from the OCNs by Universal, and not the 4k SDR IP scans Shout did for the steelbooks. Shout also did totally new 4k HDR transfers for 4&5, as the old Anchor Bay HD masters are really starting to show their age. Shout may have gotten the Miramax produced Halloween sequels from Paramount before they ceased licencing. But since Paramount haven't licenced any Miramax titles and seems to be on a role with remastering them in 4k HDR with Scream and From Dusk till Dawn to go by, they'll probably end up coming from them. EDIT: He said that Fox did the 4K transfer for Unbreakable when the previous Blu ray came from Disney. EDIT 2: He said that Arrow will release the 4K of Highlander. What sense does that make? Also, "I'm not going to blow up scream factories announcement, but they are releasing Halloween 1-5 on 4K." Last edited by dylrichard02; 07-06-2021 at 05:00 AM. |

I guess a new scan for Halloween sort of makes sense considering the 2013 remaster IS 8 years old now (by comparison, the previous Divimax transfer was 10 years old at that point), but I doubt we'd see that much of a difference. I thought it looked pretty definitive, and it seems like a waste to drag Dean Cundey and the OCN out again for yet another new scan. They could just use the previous scan and just run a new HDR pass with more color correction. |
