I could see Blunt possibly getting an acting nod, but I can't fathom Krasinski's performance meriting a major nomination, either as actor or director. I just think they both gave solid performances in a good movie. Nothing more, nothing less.

Honestly, every kid is different. My first daughter and my last daughter both entered the world quiet as can be. My first daughter came out, curious as can be, looking around at everything. My last daughter simply was just exhausted, it seemed, from the whole ordeal so she didn't really cry.

My 2nd daughter came out crying, but it was a relatively quiet cry.

Even still, that's why they had the whole fireworks distraction set up prepared. They seemed well prepared and she was probably preparing herself all nine months to be ready to not make a sound.

*Edit* Also, she wasn't silent through the whole labor. As the fireworks finally got set off, the monster ran away, she then screamed because of the pain.

Anyway, it might've all been too convenient, sure, but it's not as far fetched as one might think. *End Edit*

You obviously haven't experienced or know that many people who have given birth. It's not a regular occurrence. It didn't happen for the three births my wife went through.

But most women arent being hunted by creatures while giving birth.

I think this film resonates a lot more to those who have children of their own. Krasinski even said in multiple interviews that this movie was essentially an ode to his kids in a way.

Those without kids might not feel the level of connection and struggle that the parents go through for their kids. The amount of effort a parent will put forth just to try to keep their children safe. That will also include making rational or irrational decisions.

Me too.

[Show spoiler]Sure he didn't necessarily have to sacrifice himself, as others have pointed out, but in the moment, that was all he could think to do to give his kids a legitimate chance to get away. It was his final act to show his love for his daughter who thought losing her brother at the beginning was her fault. Could be construed as irrational decision-making, but again parents do that from time to time.

Too often women in labor are depicted as screaming and crying in pain throughout. It's often not the case.

The pain of trying to raise children in an environment such as this is heart-wrenching. Kids are supposed to play and be loud. Here their entire behavior has to be regimented so strictly and emotions are having to be expressed silently. As a parent, that part was the hardest. Can you imagine never hearing your child laugh?

My wife was in labor for over 3 days. This would have been a very different movie under those circumstances.

For sure, what a sad and bleak world that would be. That scene of them playing Monopoly, too. They are "having fun" but one little thing puts them right back into "I might die" mode. How much fun could they really have knowing that in the back of their mind anything could get them killed.

Real life is tough enough that often times it's the sound of kid's laughter or the thought of my kids smiling or happy that keeps me energized.

Good gravy. Was that your first? My wife was in labor for 24 hours (only pushing for 2 and half, which is still pretty long to be pushing) for our first. Our 2nd and 3rd were pretty quick though. The time we got to the hospital before my wife delivered was about an hour for both. So fast she they couldn't give her an epidural, so "au naturale."

LOL! I watched this with a buddy over the weekend, first time seeing it for either of us and he said something similar: "Dude, one wrong, big fart and you're done for!"

I thought it was pretty solid, definitely some silly, eye rolling moments (like the nail bit), etc, but overall a worthy purchase, I will watch it again plenty more over the years I'm sure. I'm also on the side that saw this more as a scary suspense/thriller than a true horror movie.

Yup. And it ended with an emergency c-section so she went through all of it needlessly. Turns out she was experiencing something called prodromal labor, which produces all the awful pain of labor without any of the results. It's not good!

I don't understand why people think getting pregnant or having the baby is a plot hole? They outfitted a room underground where the baby could be a baby and not be heard by the creatures. Now complications happened so it didn't work out that way, but that apparently was the plan.

They didn't want to stop living their lives and of course they planned it all out.

They are also religious and likely felt some obligation to their overlord to repopulate the earth.

I'm not convinced it was a planned pregnancy. As a woman and mother myself, I would be hesitant to intentionally get pregnant in such horrific circumstances, especially given all the things that can go wrong during labor and delivery without medical attention.
