I’m definitely not canceling my order over a slipcover. $20 to support Arrow venturing into UHD is a no-brainer for me, even if the edition will feel slightly less premium now. $20 is hardly a premium price point anyway.

No Slipcover just killed it for a lot of buyers.
It is as if millions of pre-orders suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly canceled! |

When I first started collecting Blu-rays I threw away every slipcover I received, ~2008-2010 or 2011. I forget but I suppose after a few years I lost my focus on the movies themselves because my collection had grown to such an enormous size. So I suppose for many, many movies in my collection since I had/have not seen them , the packaging was all I had/have and so these days slipcovers, packaging and discs are all I have, so they matter. I don't keep track but my un-watched Blu-ray pile is enormous. I know I am not alone.

If Arrow’s first UHD releases don’t do well, they might decide it’s not worth it and scrap releases for more future 4K discs. Keep that in mind.
I realize a slipcover gives you that ‘premium’ feel but in this case, and especially at $20 bucks from a niche label, a slipcover should not be that big of a deal. Also, who knows if it’ll ever drop to $15, let alone $10. This is a company releasing niche titles, not Universal or Lionsgate. Their standard blu-rays releases very rarely go below $15 so I don’t see how a UHD disc release will get there, it it does at all. For $20, this is a steal given it’s a niche label. |

It's no doubt stressful and disappointing for Arrow - they wanted this to be a big intro into the 4K catalog world - I'm not cancelling my order over a slip cover or for a printing error. I want films presented in the best way possible and for movies shot on film especially, 4K UHD physical is the best format. Wish Disney not having any plans for further 4K catalog titles from the Fox, Touchstone vaults after Home Alone and Hocus Pocus, we'll need companies like Arrow to be the ones to release all these films. Unless of course, people really do just want digital copies only. |
