Yeah, you've previously conveyed your love for Goodfellas on 4K. I wish I could see it through your eyes, but to me it looks dark and drab compared to the blu ray. Which (in my experience) is often the case with 4K HDR. Now tell me how my OLED is defective or incapable of properly displaying 4K HDR content.

^ Your OLED is defective, poorly calibrated, and I will add that your eyesight is failing, you are going deaf, and you are balding. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about your breath.

You forgot to mention tone mapping.

I have an OLED, and I still love 'Goodfellas.'

I hate people that adopted this format purely for higher nits.

'Goodfellas' has never--and will never--be a 'bright' movie.

The day that techie mooks take over the film industry purely for the sake of altering artistic intent for the sake of showing off their theater setup, is the day I'll start throwing elbows.

Creating a superficially bright and colorful image for a film that doesn't require such palette, is every bit as offensive as DNR and EE.

It's not about display format!
Goodfellas looks like a 90s print, it's dark and lovely.

Gave this UHD a spin last night. It looks a helluva lot better than some of the comments around here suggest. There are long stretches that look about as good as anything we've ever seen on this format. (There's a moment towards the end of the film where Forrest is with Jenny recalling his adventures -- and we briefly get this shot of Gump on his boat, silhouetted against the sunset on the bayou -- and the color is so striking, all five of us watching said "wow" at the exact same time.)

I would agree that the UHD sometimes appears more contrasty -- and yes, a few scenes where black levels were probably lowered farther than needed. Unlike some viewers, DNR did not present itself as a major distraction for me. If we're using GREASE as the low bar, FORREST GUMP is nowhere close.

It's possible, just maybe, that even so many years later some reviewers are still unaware of just how many VFX shots are used in this movie. Those shots will always show a somewhat softer and more "digitized" look -- even when viewing on 35mm film. The original BD has lower resolution and a lot more digital processing than the UHD -- therefore the BD is better at hiding the differences between VFX and non-VFX footage. FORREST GUMP on UHD is not perfect, but more often than not this UHD crushes the previous bluray.

This is easily the best FORREST GUMP has ever looked on home video, and recommended if you're a fan of the film.

Geoff D appears to agree with forum member benhoppel, so he is not alone in this opinion.

I watched the blu ray upscaled to 4K, and thought it looked great. I wonder how much improvement I would see sitting at a normal viewing distance.

Can anyone please confirm what languages are available on this (UK) release? According to blu-ray.com only english audio is present on the 4k disc, I would like to know if Hungarian is also available. Thank you.

I did the same thing and had the same reaction. I don't feel a need to upgrade.

Watched today and if it weren’t for DNR this would have been a reference disc. Some scenes are flat out gorgeous. One thing I disagree with is complaints about the colour being garishly over saturated. Colours are very nice throughout. Black levels are very solid also. It’s such a mixed bag of fine detail and DNR. It’s literally one extreme to the next. You either get gorgeous film like texture or completely smoothed over wax. Some scenes just look terrible, I mean awful. HDR does look very nice in some scenes with pitch perfect contrast. There is some scenes that have mild DNR that still carry detail but blink and it’s back to slop. Extremely frustrating.

The rich DV colour and contrast make it worth it for me.

I haven’t looked at the BD so I don’t know but when it looks good it’s superb with nice depth, detail, spot on contrast and robust colour. When DNR kicks in its bush. I would say wait till it’s very cheap if you can.
