Yes, this is strange indeed. I’ve just got an e-mail from CDON SE advertising The Lord of the Rings 4K UHD. Not a word about The Hobbit. I will try to contact SF again. I’m also interested to know if we will get the Steelbooks in Scandinavia as well. I prefer the design of those so I sure hope so.

Yeah, i got an email from the Norwegian division and the same thing. Let us know what you get in response. I get what you mean, the Steelbooks looks a lot better.

Exactly this. I've been a fan of the site, and friendly with some of the people that run it, for two decades now. But they are not technically inclined in the slightest. In fact, they're a lot like hobbits in that regard, which is exactly why I love it there.

I never knew that The Battle of the Five Armies was R rated. Seems extreme.

I am pretty sure it's because of the spiked wheels scene in the Extended edition.

Only the extended version, which is a lot more bloody in some sequences. More dismemberments, and beheadings.

You can see them here, played to humorous music

I'm not surprised. Jackson likes gore.

I’m stuck on which one to buy, either Lord of Rings or The Hobbit... since they are rather pricey. Would love to go halfsies on these sets with someone. I buy one, you buy the other... and we trade either the theatrical or extended editions.

Happy to know the French track is included. Though it doesn’t seem clear if it’s in extended or theatrical or both.

Aaaaaaaaannnnnddddd.....preordered. The Hobbit Trilogy already looked extremely solid on blu, and made the much older LOTR Trilogy look a bit dated. The Hobbit Trilogy should be stunning on 4k uhd.

Both were shot on spectacularly good equipment. The Lord of the Rings is always going to have a slightly different aesthetic given it was shot on film rather than digitally, but look at some other films that were shot on 35/65mm and tell me they look dated: The Shining, Apocalypse Now, 2001, Blade Runner & The Matrix.

Being of a similar era The Matrix is a good example to look, and it's 2018 4K release was considered to be pretty spectacular. I'm hopeful of similar for LOTR.

I do find it odd that 48p isn't supported in the standard. And 3d capable 4k projector will display a 48p 4k image (eg each second it is displaying 24 left eye frames and 24 right eye). Just odd that the HDMI format just didn't include it.

Are there any other films in 48 fps? It would be incredibly pointless doing all that extra work solely so one trilogy of films can be displayed at the theatrical frame-rate, especially since all it really does is destroy the "movie magic" and makes the whole thing look like a cheap TV show.

I'm not sure it was ever confirmed, but the rumor was X-Men: Days of Future Past was also shot 3D 48fps, but because of the lackluster reaction to The Hobbit, it was never released that way.

I'm not too savvy on the technical details, but I would think if Peter Jackson really wanted to, he could supervise a conversion of the film in HFR that would work on people's displays, but maybe at this point he doesn't feel it's that important.
