I'm also currently reading the book Taking shapes, which is really interesting. Can never get enough behind the scenes of the Halloween movies haha. Last edited by fred25_Ca; 07-18-2021 at 05:56 PM. |

I don't like to abuse or take advantage of the situation but when I buy something new I expect it to arrive in new condition, whether it's a gift or for myself. A small ding in a corner of a board game box for example is okay for me, if it's not bad. But if the top is crushed in, or all scratched up, back it goes. We're also Prime so maybe they allow a bit more if you're a Prime member? There's lots of articles out there on what triggers an Amazon warning, but again, it's all guesswork - is it a certain number of returns within a certain period of time? A certain dollar value? A certain type of item? Last edited by mar3o; 07-18-2021 at 05:49 PM. |

Some aren't as critical and that's fine if they're not bothered by dents, damage, cracked cases, crushed box tops, etc - but those who are more picky shouldn't feel guilt for wanting their stuff to look nice. As far as scratches, I don't accept scratched discs unless it's minor. And that's becoming more of an issue over the years. When I open a new set and see 3 of the 10 discs have a half-dozen scuffs or scratch marks, it's going back, because A) it might affect re-sale value later if I sell it, and B) it might affect playback, if not on my current player, then maybe my next one. Amazon makes billions. They don't care about bleeding money in returns because they make so much they literally couldn't care about even millions of returns. But they are absolutely losing money on it. I'm not saying it's putting them into a deficit obviously. But it's money lost every time they throw away another return and ship another one out for free. Many of those items were returned simply due to damage from poor handling by the carriers and no proper packaging by Amazon. And they throw away millions of items a year in returns. This is a fact. I was reading an article about it just last week - millions of Amazon returns end up in landfills every year. They also throw away tons of perfectly good items for various reasons. Haha, I wrote Reading Shape but I meant Taking Shape, that's what i'm reading right now. They mentioned the novelization and that's how I heard about it and went to buy it on kindle. What's Taking Shape 2 about?

Any chances we might get the tv cut? I was just reading about it in Taking Shape and i'm surprised we haven't seen it on home video yet. After the 1976 King Kong tv cut released by shout factory, you'd think they would be pushing for Halloween to have it too.

Anchor Bay made a SD 480p widescreen version for Halloween ‘78 extended version with the TV scenes reinserted in 2000. Scream then rebuilt it in 1080p in 2016. Scream also released the TV cut of Halloween II but as an exact copy taken from a 4x3 TV master. |

So, going back a few pages and looking at the press release of the new upcoming UHD, I noticed there is a third Blu-ray disc included that's label "Original Color Timing". What's this suppose to mean exactly? Does this mean the transfer for the upcoming collector's edition UHD from Shout will not have the same color timing the film had when it was first released in theaters in 1978 and will have a revisionist color grading instead?

I wish people would stop saying this. The TV cut of Halloween wasn't in the previous box set - it was just the 'extended' cut that's merely a composite of the theatrical cut with the television footage spliced in.

No one knows yet. It's possible it could be the 2007 Blu Ray. I'm hoping it's the 4K remaster but with the DVD era style color timing done over it.

And the first blu-ray release will pale in comparison to the new 4k remaster, color aside. At least they could use the new 4k master as a base and recreate the "original" blu-ray coloring if offering the old blu-ray's color timing as an option is their goal. Who would want to watch that old blu-ray when they could watch a new blu-ray using the new scan? They could easily match the coloring of the old blu-ray using the new master. I've even seen fan editors use techniques that match new masters to old DVD and laserdisc coloring, with surprisingly accurate results. Last edited by mar3o; 07-19-2021 at 04:58 PM. |

Watched Lion's Gate 4K release last night on an OLED in Dolby Vision.
Brightness on OLED was set to 50, but found the black levels to be very milky/grey. Is this just how the 4K was mastered or should I lower the brightness in general, as setting it to 49 or 48 made the blacks look much better in my opinion? Thanks for any help/advice. |
