Thanks for the info!
Was thinking of leaving brightness on 49/48, but thought that might be too low for other movies?
Would rather leave it on a certain setting for all movies, but there probably no one fits all setting I suppose?

I have base HD settings for my screen. But some older stuff from 70s/80s/some early 90s, even in HD on Blu Ray, needs to be adjusted, the normal HD settings are no good. So for example my base Contrast level is 53 and Brightness is 47. If I drop one I drop the other, so I go -7, -10, -15 etc. I got an animated series recently from the 70s that is remastered in beautiful 1080p, but it looked absolutely milky on my base settings. Once I adjusted it was perfect, I think I had to drop brightness/contrast by 15 each. The Rambo 4Ks were around 10 each, can't remember Halloween but it was maybe around 7. The Dark Crystal 4K needed a little drop too. Anytime I am watching SD stuff I need to adjust no question. I tend to watch things dark, either right before crush sets in or maybe 1 notch into crush. Most people run their screens way too bright.

Once you know how perfect black level is supposed to look on your screen it's easy. Write the settings on a post-it note and keep it in the movie case.

You do you, my friend. But, it is not calibrating, to adjust the black levels to your preference in each movie you watch. There are a lot of films where elevated black (low-contrast) is a specific choice.

Hence, the gif.

It is, though. But I appreciate the snark, truly. Have a nice day.

Didn't mean to ridicule. I just find it fascinating that someone would call adjusting your TV's black levels per movie, as calibrating. That seems to be the opposite of calibrating.

I have done it myself recently, for "The Last Time I Committed Suicide". But, that was because there appears to be a mastering error on the disc to elevate the black levels horrifically.

I never have to adjust the brightness on my OLED. Once you have it at reference levels you shouldn't touch it.

I find that I also often have to adjust the black levels from movie to movie in order for it to look it's best, and I'm pretty sure it's because I have an edge-lit set. I'll be moving to OLED soon tho, so hopefully I can stop.

This is what I've been thinking. That when they say "original" color timing, they mean the "original Blu-Ray's" color timing. It was that line of reasoning why they included both the 2007 and the 2013 transfers in the deluxe box set in the first place.

I can't imagine having to calibrate my screen every time I watch a movie. Just set it properly from the get go and accept that not all movies look alike

I admit I have done that in the past but haven't touched my settings in quite some time now... I think the issue people are having with that guys statement is the terminology, properly calibrated and adjusting to your liking are completely different... I went ahead and ordered all 5 of these, I'm hoping they will fit in the old shout box with the slips... I might have to remove the booklet though, we will see

Sincerely doubt they will. But I don't know why you'd want to do that anyway. That was a different release.

I like to put together my own... I mean really the only difference will be new discs and slips, surely the case will have reversible original art... I put the lionsgate slip over part 1 and it fits but the corners are rounded on that slip

Problem is these releases won't have slipscovers, but slip cases.

Not sure why anyone would want to frankenstein their original deluxe boxsets..

Also not sure why people are offloading theirs, for starters the rest of the movies haven't been announced for 4k release so you're literally giving up owning half of the series and all the special features

And on the subject of special features, there's no guarantee everything on the boxset release discs will transfer over to these new releases or any future releases. Me personally would only consider selling it when I know that I have a duplicate set of movies that are equal to or greater than in terms of quality and features... Even then I'll likely just keep it lol
