Ordered the Ozzie Blu-ray a week ago as an addition to the US UHD-BD. And now it's 30% cheaper.

I wouldn't hold my breath just yet. Read the other day that "the" German BD, I think it was the Swiss Ascot Elite one to be precise, actually does - English subs for the Spanish dialogue with the English audio track. No word on the UHD and the Universum one in particular.

I for one bought the US one cheap, thought the movie sucked (or was extremely mediocre/disappointing to drop the hyperbole, kind of like the poor man's Taken) and won't bother anymore. The long version also won't fix any of the issues I have with this movie - IMO it basically just adds a pointless prologue.

I check with english audio without subs and one scene with spanish dialogues have nothing burning on screen. I hope this help.
But we can at least watch with no subs at all? Having already seen it a few times, the Spanish is minimal and easy enough to intuit.

If there's a UHD I can just turn subs OFF for, I'm cool with that. Anyone know the options for that?

I rewatched this a couple times over the weekend with family in town, since it was one of the few things they hadn't seen that I knew they could get into.

I think the movie went from just "OK" to I actually kinda like it. It's pretty satisfying. Not quite 2008 tier, but it's well above an Escape Plan in production value even though it doesn't have the best CG or the most artful approach. I also think it's worthy subject matter and emotionally affecting. Home Alone Rambo actually is dope and old Sly is way better than any other ageing leading males in recent memory, imo. The character deserved to
[Show spoiler]find something worth dying for.

It's visually a damn fine UHD too, that I think I undersold it with my day 1 impressions. Now I really just want to get my hands on that extended cut.

Nope. It's about 3 scenes with Spanish speaking parts and the subs are burned into the scene with the language you are watching.

Holding out hope for the German one but it doesn't look good.

So not even the aforementioned Italian one lets you pick no subs at all?

The German disc won't have burned-in English subs.

Really can't see the German UHD having Eng subs for Spanish dialogue scenes, so looks as though it's the Aus BD for an Eng friendly ext version.

JB Hi-fi currently have 30% off so might as well do this now...
Including shipping from JB Hi-fi, the Blu comes to about £15. I can never remember if the postage counts towards the total for customs or if it’s just the item’s price, but if customs does include the postage then this might get hit, annoyingly.

If they're making it this hard to get a hold of the extended cut, then just download it. No idea why both weren't on the UK/US discs in the first place. They should be happy people even still buy physical media without doing awkward things like this. ⁷

It was like when Ralph Breaks the Internet 3D was only realesed in Japan and folks were paying like £50 to import it. Crazy.

Yeah, the BD comes to £15 and the 4K comes in at just over £17, I've never been hit by customs from JB but I haven't ordered from them for a good while.

It the item's value (=its price) exceeds a certain amount (here is 22 Euro), customs duties and VAT will apply to price+postage (that's how It works here in Italy).

Even if a disc doesn't necessarily let you switch off or on specific subtitles, often the player will be able to manipulate sub/audio options for you. This doesn't help if what you're looking for isn't actually on the disc..

My Italian version has been shipped. i'll report my findings..
The DTS 5.1 might not be that bad. My setup does an amazing job with DTS Neo X up scaling audio to the overheads/rears etc.

Do any Asian territories have a 4k disc??

At this point I’ve given up hope on scene-specific English subs. I just want the extended cut on 4K with no forced subs of any kind.

Has anybody seen a 4K release available from Hong Kong? Yesasia has a listing for the Blu-ray which runs for 101 minutes but no 4k listing. I thought Hong Kong might be a good bet for English subtitles on the Spanish bits.

Nope, but that if that BD has English subs it'll be a good choice for US viewers who want the EC and don't have region-free players. It's somewhat bizarre (and a bit lucky for me) that Australia/NZ is the only primarily English-speaking territory where it was released.

Are the subs on the Aussie Blu Ray burnt in or can they be demuxed? If so, could remux a UHD.
