This now my number 1 ranked movie for Atmos sound with either Oblivion or Star Trek Beyond being a DISTANT second.
Blade Runner 2049 and Gravity take top Atmos spots in my book. A Quiet Place is placed after those two. Gravity is the godfather of all Atmos soundtracks; an absolute showcase for immersive audio and the bigger the Atmos system, the better it sounds.

I missed this in theaters (yes, despite it being around for a long time) and want to blind buy it. From what I can tell, a good portion is shot at night/in low lighting? So is it worth blind buying the 4K or is there not much overall improvement from the blu-ray?

[Show spoiler](I'm intentionally not reading previous posts to avoid spoilers.)

There's enough of an image refinement and benefit with the HDR grade and wider color reproduction to warrant the 4k purchase. As for the movie, just check your brain at the door and roll with it.

I only like it for the Atmos mix.

Thanks! The sound is a big selling point for me. I'm still kicking myself that I didn't get to experience it in a theater.

If you were to stream this, would you rather:

A) Watch in Dolby Vision without Atmos
or
B) Watch in HDR10 with Atmos

I don't think a movie has ever put my subs through a workout the way this did, amazing LFE on this.

I see people talking about the soundtrack a lot (which is interesting considering how much silence there is), but what are you all thinking of the PQ?

I enjoyed the movie as an experience in the theater. It was so wild how silent the crowd was. It was almost like mass hypnosis.

Not sure what the experience would be like at home.

Anyway, if the consensus is this has a great PQ, then I might bite on this. Interested to hear your feedback.

On a 110 inch screen, I thought the image was fantastic. I can't fault it.

Writing though... Hypothetical. I want you to come up with a believable reason for this
John:. Female protagonist. Pregnant AND carrying a load of laundry. Action: She needs to descend a set of stairs in dark lighting, and not make any noise.

Writer: Any other constraints?

John: Yeah, the stairs have foot placements on them so they know where to stand without making any sound

Writer. Ok. Any costume limitations?

John: Well actually I see her with bare feet, and with a dress that gangs to her ankles. Any ideas?

Writer, oh easy I can see a dozen. Her dress catches on a nail on the door frame. Or because she is carrying a bag or laundry, and pregnant, she misses the footprints and stands on a kids toy they left on the stairs. Or maybe she stands her heel into the head of a naid that has poked through. I have personally stood on a nail at the front of my foot, and on a nailhead onmymheao, and the heel was about 15 times more painful.

John: no those ones make sense. I am trying to invoke an emotional response in the viewers. I want you to come up with something that is so stupid that viewers will have such a visceral reaction that I won't be able to leave my house without a security team.

The fixation on that ONE scene is pretty perplexing. Sure, it's pretty far-fetched, but, isn't the ENTIRE movie premise, not to mention almost all movie premises, far-fetched?

A nail being snagged, later then used as a literal painful cringe-enducing moment, is the most ridiculous thing you focused on in the movie? How about BIG ALIEN MONSTERS? That's in your level of believability, but how a nail gets pulled up and then later stepped on is not?

The film ain’t that good, at least to me. I’m honestly baffled by its critical acclaim. I saw this for free before I read the Rotten Tomatoes score and I assumed it’d get below 50%. What am I missing?

Sound design I think for this movie is a bit more important. If I had to choose one or the other, maybe HDR10 with Atmos.

You did ask a question, so Chaotic jokingly responded.

See, I can’t see that as a joke because it tries to invalidate what I thought about it by saying I missed something. If he wanted to be funny, he’d do a better job. If he wanted to show me what I missed, I’m all eyes. Just do so in a constructive manner.

I mean, some movies click and some movies don't. It's OK not to like it. It's a perfectly fine little genre thriller but it certainly isn't something life-changing.
