I like the franchise as a whole, plot holes, missteps, and all included. I love Halloween 3, but I have to wonder if it ever would've happened without the original film, which I also happen to love.

I've only seen the first three which I plan on getting; should 4 & 5 be watched first before blind buying?

4 is pretty safe. 5 is worth a shot if you really like 4.

Halloween III could be the greatest Halloween the holiday film ever made. For example, Trick R' Treat is another strong candidate for this. Not even the Myers entries give off better Halloween vibes (again, the holiday) than Halloween III. If you feel strongly about the Fall season, October, Trick or treating, the Halloween section at the store, etc etc...H3 is hard to beat. It's absolutely essential October viewing. That's just my opinion.

That's probably it...I hate Trick R' Treat as well.

I don't consider part 3 a HALLOWEEN franchise movie because, plot wise, it has zero to do with the rest of the series. I hate it because it is just a bad movie.

A guy like me, at my age, having suffered the number of concussions that I have, I often rewatch movies and find them new to me as I've forgotten more than I can remember. I've seen SEASON OF THE WITCH exactly one time, almost 40 years ago and unfortunately, I remember it all too well. The sheer disappointment of popping that tape in the machine expecting to see the continuing saga of Myer, Strode and Loomis was only made worse by the most torturous earworm of a jingle that still haunts me all these years later. It has scarred me for life.

When my son came of age, I sat him down and screened parts 1,2 and 4. I then left him to decide whether or not he wanted to pursue the later installments. He crapped out after 5 even though we owned all the rest on DVD.

With H18 announced, I waited a little longer before I brought my daughter into the fold. I screened the original masterpiece for her the night before we went out to see H18 (never in a million years thinking what would transpire before we would get to see the next installment). Unfortunately, an Eli Roth doc has ruined the sister revelation for her for when we finally dive into the boxed set after this latest trilogy ends. Neither of my kids have asked about part 3. I doubt it would play in my machine as they've both seen me use the disc from the deluxe set as a beer coaster and I never owned it on DVD and will not pick it up on UHD. Maybe I'll get a second coaster with a future UHD boxed set?

I totally disagree and love part 3, but I still really enjoyed reading your absolute hatred of it because I get a real kick out of the fact that one person can think a movie is a piece of gold while someone else thinks it's a piece of moldy dog crap.

Nah those movies have their fans too. Have you seen that franchise's forum?

Return is a an favourite and is a safe blind buy. It's a pretty standard Halloween film, and is probably the most similar to the original in that it retains all of the 1978 film's major plot points.

Revenge, on the other hand, is pretty unpopular. There are people are like it, but I'd recommend watching it first if you aren't a completionist. One of its major issues is that the director and co-writer had never seen any of the preceding films and a lot of the stuff in the film was more-or-less made up on the spot (or their explanation was 'the sequel can explain it' when something didn't make sense). I personally rank it as my least favourite Halloween film.

Is it possible to start a thread for Halloween (1978)? I would start one myself but I don’t know if there’d be much interest.

Hahaha. As much as I like to have a good laugh around here.. you have no idea..
I'm not a collector but I know that many around here would be horrified with the way I treat my disc's... when I'm running a marathon, they pile up on top of the player with the boxes on the floor until I'm done. At various times, I've had my ALIEN, TARANTINO, HALLOWEEN and F13 box sets strewn around the room among the beer cans until my wife comes down to clean up..
