UHD is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you gonna get!
![]() We've rarely been given this sort of transparency as to the provenance of the 4K transfer & UHD grading by any studio, most of the time such info has been gleaned from social media posts and/or external interviews with the post-production talent on the usual clutch of post-prod websites. |

I think the cover is rather lazy, but it's OK. I'm incomparably more interested in what's inside, given what they've announced.Maybe there will be some interview where he will detail what they did with the new transfer. That would be nice.

![]() I think the Nolan collection was a one-off in terms of the grain, and I've been wondering if it wasn't perhaps a Fotokem deal and not Warner proper. That kind of temporal and very noticeably smeary noise reduction is not something I typically associate with WB, they've usually gone more for spatial softening and letting the compression do the work. Goodfellas looks excellent, and Unforgiven, though light on grain, always shows it at full speed so it never really looks unnatural. Last edited by Pyoko; 03-13-2018 at 11:35 PM. |

This is the first movie I saw that caused me to fall in love with film.
I still remember renting this and Forrest Gump on VHS from Blockbuster and the following day, going to a nearby BJ's Wholesale Club and purchasing a DVD player and The Matrix and The Green Mile on DVD. I'm really, really, really excited to see the upgrade. To this day it remains one of my favorite films. Also, put me down as someone who likes the new cover. The original poster is iconic and would have probably been the best choice, but it's much better than the existing Blu-ray. ![]() |

This is why I am waiting for a backcover on Warner releases, which are accurate. |

![]() MPI would've handled the Nolan stuff for sure, not the large format scanning itself as Fotokem is pretty much the only game in town for that, but for what came after I'm happy to place the blame squarely on Warners' (and Nolan's) shoulders. Then there's the filtering applied to their UHD of Blade Runner 2049 vs Sony's international disc, we can only see the smoke so many times before thinking "there be a fire there!". Even their Blu-rays still aren't anything super-special UNLESS it came from WAC, those guys aren't fettered by the need to squeeze a bajillion extra language tracks on their discs and they're delivering some seriously sexy-looking Blu-rays as a result. But it seems as if Warners proper are still looking to apply the odd bit of filtering here and there, and that tied in with the Nolan stuff coming off of IPs anyway did the grain no favours at all on those discs. |
