Sure, sure. And when we don't have anything better to compare it to, as with BR2049, then it'll do because it still kills the old BDs. If they HAVE to filter then I'd rather they low-pass it rather than going down the noise-reduction route but who really knows WTF happened on the Nolan discs? Perhaps he genuinely didn't like the amount of grain he was seeing (HDR bringing it up as it does) so he got them to fudge with it.

Look, as long as they don't go Full Alfred Melting Face with The Matrix then we'll all breathe a sigh of relief. You never go Full Alfred Melting Face.

Sorry, I should've known better. He's suffered enough already, looking as disfigured as he does.

AFAIK, Warner WAS involved with Unforgiven, and that looks beautiful. But Goodfellas was indeed outsourced.

That’s a good point. I guess it makes sense then. It can be a tool for non-enthusiasts or beginners to sort of “dip their toes in,” so to speak, and get at least some benefit of this new technology.

Glad we have a date now. My theater room should be finished by then. I’m bummed that we aren’t getting all the films, as I like the whole series. However, I’m sure the first film is the biggest seller by quite a bit.

Wait...what is this about filtering on Warner's disc?
First I've heard of this.

So, there actually is an incentive to pick up the Sony disc?

Yes, the better encode is from Sony: U.K., Europe, or Japan. They dropped the filtering on the WB disc and therefore there is more detail.

Interesting, I'm glad I haven't bought the disc yet.

I guess I'll try to find where I can buy the Japanese one...or whatever is cheaper.

I've been searching around on the Blade Runner 2049 forum, and I found this:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/132062

There is a slight difference, but not enough to really warrant an import imo.

Just saw the press release, now to catch up with the thread!

Remastered Blu is as far as I got on the release, and I can't wait to see both!

4K scan is good enough for me, the old blu ray is artefacts hell.

Even if they stuff up the 4k release, I;ll grab the 4K SCAN on blu ray if they choose that option.

hopefully it removes the revisionist blanket green tint. But we'll see. I'm guessing no. Still exciting to see this out in 4k!

So are you saying that "The first rule of UHD Mastering is that you never go Full Alfred Melting Face"?

I wish the second through the fifth rules were that you also never go "FAMF"... we'd end up with a lot better transfers if that were the case.

The method should be called "The Melting Butler".

I think we can't really compare Nolanses to any proper OCN-sourced 4K. HP 1-2 is a good reference for a softened super35 OCN material in 4K. Even Unforgiven doesn't fit, since it's not super35.

Best cover art The Matrix has had on home video. Awesome. My 2nd most anticipated catalog title this year.
