Uh, ok.
Yes, it was a strange post. But I still thanked him/her for the contribution.

The film has a lot of grain and to me it just looks better on a big screen when it comes to details. On OLED grain is more visible and blacks are deep without crush. No DNR to my eyes. Take it as you wish. Hope that clarifies my views.

Viewing distance is about 3-4 meters.

Isn't viewing distance of 3-4 meters for 4K content from 65 inch TV a bit too much?

I swear to God, this place is friggin' unreal.

If one has the nerve of asking, in a totally cool, relaxed manner, for a first, ballpark impression on this disk from those lucky ones who already received it, he gets mocked. Go figure why. Oh, and, of course, the post doing the mocking gets a ton of enthusiastic thumbs-up from the usual claque.

But when someone else actually takes the time to drop a few lines to share his opinion on the transfer, he also gest his balls busted because he did not make a proper techie review, all nerdy bells and whistles included.

Like I've said. Unreal.

Same, but then I remember people talking aboot "crush" on the Nolan UHDs even though the black levels are mostly grey AF, so I think there are two competing definitions at work and it's nice to know what some folks mean so we can get on the same page re: future discussions.

Have some posts been deleted here or something to generate such a vitriolic response, or did you need to get this off your chest in general? Someone posted some first impressions, yes, but they were somewhat contradictory which is why someone else has questioned said impressions and would like to know why it worked in one viewing environment and not the other. That's not an unreasonable request.

If you're referring to your "totally cool" inquiry about the transfer getting "mocked" then I don't see a mountain of hate, I don't see where the "claque" has piled onto the non-believer with 75 'likes' for the "mocking", there were a couple of cheeky replies from people who were NOT taking the piss out of you but out of the slipcover crybabies (myself included) who seem to value that above the transfer. And those replies have the grand total of one 'like'. Each.

All I see here is someone getting bent out of shape for having completely misunderstood the blasé response to their previous question and then getting angry on someone else's behalf (who themselves has replied in a very even-handed manner, no histrionics) as a result of that misplaced frustration. Dude, just...chill.

I saw this entire exchange early this morning and was puzzled as to what led to that response. I don't believe anything was deleted. The post in question was a bit confusing but I didn't see anyone reply in a rude manner. Asking for clarification, in itself, is not rude, especially when one's statement directly contradicts itself.

The only two people who really said anything about his lack of a review were the same who had this to say about it later? I am confused.

I'll keep this short. I've never complained about any "hate". I am not "angry". Those are your words. I've said "mock". I believe anybody even slightly familiar with the dynamics in here understands exactly what I was talking about. And, with regard to those dynamics, I do confess I occasionally get slightly fed up with them. Still, "anger"? Naah.

But, dude... woah... As "vitriolic" goes you oughta check out your own response, cause it kinda takes "vitriolic" to a whole new level.
It would appear I've struck a nerve. Must be the "claque" bit in my post hit close to home.

Perhaps you should be the one doing the chilling... dude.

So that was a completely relaxed and totally cool GiorgioV just casually tossing it out there by starting with "I swear to God, this place is friggin' unreal". Again, did I miss some whole other convo, because I don't see any examples of this nasty forums "dynamic" at work here? Genuine question.

[edit]

Wait a sec, is that gif AreaFive posted what's got you so riled up? How? He's poking fun at classic forums procrastination, I've got so many discs here that are still wrapped it's unreal which is why it was thanked by myself and so many others. It's funny because it's true and has absolutely nothing to do with "mocking" your question. Even when there's zero drama in a thread, someone feels compelled to create some. All together now: I swear to God, this place is friggin' unreal.

It just occurred to me, you're not referring to this, are you?

On the off chance you were, I was by no means mocking anyone for not watching a new purchase in a timely manner. Quite the opposite in fact, I was pointing out my surprise if, in fact, people here do.

I have a massive backlog and, while there are exceptions, it is extremely unlikely that anything I buy is going to be watched soon. If anyone is expecting a review from something I just bought they are going to sorely disappointed.

For example, tonight I plan to watch Vampire Hunter D, an anime which came out in 1985, which I've owned for at least a year

Anyway, perhaps you weren't but I wanted to clarify that in the event that that post was misunderstood.

Right? I had Batman '89 on Blu for like 10 years, literally, and it never even got unwrapped.

I would just like some quality screen caps of either the 1080p version or the 4K so some of us can kvetch about whether an image from a series of images can be reflective of those images observed in rapid succession.

Oh and those that opine that the first telecine scans with gimped colors, contrast, and detail are The Reference of Original Creative Intent.

Now let me kvetch about Arrow's business model. I took a look at some of Flash Gordon caps and it does it look fabulous, just wish Arrow wasn't being such a grinch by releasing the 4K sets sans the remastered 1080p disc as well. A Boo and a Pox be on that garbage.
