I'm complaining about a basic feature for the film, not an extra or a documentary or a limited edition poster. I'm glad you are willing to overlook issues with the main feature film. Myself and many others would love to see the original audio and picture receive the best treatment it deserves and finally have a definitive release to watch and enjoy.

Pffft! Some purist you are. I refuse to watch Halloween unless it's a live soundtrack, with all the original actors performing their lines and Carpenter on old timey piano. If Shout Factory doesn't take the hundreds of millions that they surely make off their collector's editions and invest that in cloning Donald Pleasance (or building a time machine to fetch him from the past) to make this live soundtrack a reality, then they are doing a great disservice to us true fans!

I'm more concerned with SF not giving us a '78 replica Michael Myers mask with every purchase of the 4K release.

I'm hoping they include the cigarette burns/reel markers, and there are scratches. I'm a true purist and I want the true theatrical experience. I've already hired a homeless person to sleep in the back of my living room and mumble occasionally. I'm going to rip up my couch, too.

I like to think of myself as extremely ornery, unpleasant, and impossible to please, but I was just so happy to have the actual original 1978 mono on the previous BD box set I didn’t even notice it being muffled or un-dynamic. I also never owned the Laserdisc and don’t have anything to compare the box set’s mono against, except the fold-down or the actual surround remix, which to me is what is truly unlistenable.

For as big of deal as they made about including the original mono I was hoping they would get it right, but if they **** even that up it makes me a little skeptical on the quality of all 5 films.

For me, the first sign that this might not be the ultimate, perfect, definitive release was the artwork reveal. That should’ve been everyone’s first clue right there.

The point that was being made - for all those who don't seem to give two shits - is that Shout went to the effort of ripping the superior LD audio for Part 4, so why not do the same for the (much more celebrated) original? It's a fair, reasonable question. Sorry if that offends the "you'll take what you get and like it" brigade.

I guess there's a slim chance that all the NR was done later in the production line, and Shout has a better version of it to use...

It's Shout. Sorry to sound skeptical and I think they are putting a lot of effort into this, but they always manage to screw something up in the audio department. So this sounds just about right for them - we get the original mono but it's still the old garbage track from before instead of doing it right this time.

Yeah, we should always settle for mediocrity instead of striving for better. Sorry, but that's why things are they the way they are in general these days. You don't get to tell us to stop just because we've bought these movies 20 times and would appreciate it if just this one time everything came together right.

They had two options to do this right - do the mono over again from scratch but without the heavy processing to muffle it all up (best option), or just use the old laserdisc audio track and mux it in (acceptable option). Both take more work, so instead it seems they just used the same track from the previous release. Which is baffling because as it was pointed out - they did rip the mono track from laserdisc for part 4 (which was great news).

Maybe they weren't aware the previous track had this muffled issue, but they should know since many people have pointed this out.
