The Wachowski's wanted an ENR version, wonder how that would have looked.

Andy and Lana wanted to bleach by-pass the camera negative. That’s somewhat of a permanent thing to do, and the studio WB wasn’t necessarily comfortable with the idea. I suggested we could digitally emulate that process.

We ran a proof of concept against the Lab process, proved it was possible and graded an entire reel of the film.

I'd love to see mild layer of grain similar to Casino Royale. No need to go Staship Troopers. But if they soften it a bit, 4K should compensate indeed.
They did on Spidey 1, but then it's not a coincidence that both that and Troopers were 1.85 shows while Spideys 2 and 3 were Super 35, just like-a da Matrix, so that bodes well for not getting any Hyper-Grain™ on the Matrix, not even if Sony were handling it (if only). Super 35's 2.40 extraction comes in for a lot of stick as being overtly grainy but if anything 1.85 is worse.

Yes, Blade Runner escaped that particular filtering noose but it has problems of its own, chiefly being the sharpening and the sub-standard compression, so they still don't escape Scott free (see what I did there?) on that one. It's almost like because it wasn't filtered that they didn't know what to do with the grain, heh.

You guys don't think there was any mild filtering happening on Blade Runner? It definitely appears a teency bit lacking in grain and fine detail to my eyes.

Blade Runner was all grained up and had loads of detail. More than I ever thought possible.

Ehh, I dunno. I mean, yeah, grain is visible and the detail levels are solid, but compared to some of the stuff we've seen from Sony I found it really underwhelming.

Hmm... Interesting. It actually aligns well with the current master, which is rather contrasty, but SDR can handle only so much.

Warner will totally filter it but seeing as many reviewers gave Gravity a 5/5 flawless perfect video rating and that had the same filtering as BR2049, it won't really matter much, especially if the source has more grain that can come through.

Oh man, Gravity has an absurdly low bitrate too, it's almost kinda heroic when you square away how 'busy' some of those debris shots are and that they don't turn into a sea of digital mush.

That's a flick which I would gladly kill for to get on UHD though. Never thought much of the 3D, I know it has its fans but I really couldn't see what the fuss was about. Gimme dat 4K, Warners!

Seeing grain must be a weird occurence for the folks who master/compress Warners' 'main' stuff (separate from WAC who are doing God-Tier goodness as far as I'm concerned).

"Uh...guys? I'm getting this really weird fuzzy stuff on my screen, you ever seen anything like that before?"

It's kinda crazy how alien old(ish) films look to a lot of movie normies. My wife once rented a theater so I and some friends/family could watch The Fearless Vampire Killers on my birthday, and she told me the theater people called her after she gave them a copy of the movie to tell her they thought there was something "wrong" with the copy because of how it looked.

There's only maybe one poster that's *good enough* for Gravity. A tweaked still frame can work an billion times better, as evidenced by that cover!

Same goes for Speed Racer, WOW that marketing was garbage.
