No, it's been confirmed by several people that it wasn't like that at the movies in Germany - Aussie version it was. There wasn't an answer to the question whether the audio on the German disc is actually the right one (as in from the long version) yet, last time I checked (which was yesterday).

Watched it last night and can confirm correct audio for the wrong images.

I trust your expertise but can’t even wrap my head around how that ‘accidentally’ happens. If no print anywhere in the world was conformed to what we get from the German disc then someone would’ve had to literally sit down (under the catalyst of getting paid to, one would have to assume) and re-edit the movie using bits of both global edits. How does that happen without specific intention???

Wait, Grammar Police moment. Do you mean to say that the audio does conform to the Vietnam footage, or that it is audio for the hiker sequence playing simultaneously and incongruously with the Vietnam footage?

iTunes NL seems to have the same version. Someone mentioned it in the comments to the cut report on Dez 24th.

You hear the husband asking for his wife but you see the Vietnam footage.

Well, goddammit it all! An official eff up of the last hope for us U.S./UK folks. I wonder if that’s why my copy hasn’t shipped yet. Is it possible a recall is already being instituted? Rambo was wrong—this release has become my worst nightmare.

As FM said, how does that even happen? We've seen minor flubs before like the little bits of repeated footage in Sony's Starship Troopers BD and Par's Wrath of Khan re-release, shit happens because this stuff is all arranged digitally. But this sounds like plain carelessness.

Nope. There is no recall that I know of. German shops selling and shipping normal. But Amazon is kinda slow when using standard shipping.
And I guess it's not very likely that there will be a replacement even though some German labels do it for a lost syllable in the dub. But haven't heard about replacements from Universum.

I wonder if the Italian or the Scandinavian UHD discs are using the same master.

Btw, it was the last hope for us German (or every other nationality) OV lovers as well.

Well, for me, it's gonna be the UK UHD for the theatrical (which I already have) and i'mma import the Aussie 1080p disc for the correct extended cut. Stick them in the same case and that'll have to be that.

What's weird is that the running time is the same isn't it? That wrong flashback sounds so odd, especially with the usage of the wrong audio too

Watching the Swedish UHD right now. Same thing. Vietnam flashbacks with the ”have you seen my wife” audio. Just like two seconds before the voice-over from the theatrical continues.
As for the movie I really prefer the extended cut. It just feels more like a complete movie.

I hasn't seen the movie but do the two flashbacks - when seen in the proper versions - run for the exact same length of time? That might be why someone's made a boo boo when assembling this cut for video. And as audio is handled separately from video then that explains why the right audio is there, though it's still a monumental failure of QC that no-one noticed!

Obviously someone screwed up while assembling the "clean pass" version without subtitles.

Well, I done goofed, and I’m sorry. I totally forgot about the differing visuals in the flashback, and because my viewing of the Aussie Blu-ray had the correct “Have you seen my wife?” audio, I erroneously thought it was the correct one. But it’s the same Vietnam flashback stuff as the shorter cut, without the hiker visuals. The Mandela Effect is also real because I convinced myself I saw those visuals on the disc. Annnnnd my heart dropped when I checked it.

I’m legitimately curious about what copy movie-censorship used as a reference to compare the cuts, because they specify they used the Aussie disc, but their review has the different visuals for the flashback. So, there’s a HD version online of the international cut that’s correct.

Any time I try to formulate a theory on these forums, I look foolish, aaaaand I look foolish enough. The only explanation is that the rights holder (i.e. Balboa Productions) supplied the correct DCP for the cinema, but the wrong file for streaming and disc (it’s the same deal on the Aussie iTunes version). Or, it was a last-minute decision to remove the hiker visuals, but the DCP was already prepared.

Anyway. I’m sorry. I screwed up.

If the subs are in the black bars, you are constantly having to look down to read them, taking your eyes off the main image. That gets tiring and distracts you from the action. Since you're already looking at the movie, the subs should appear within the movie frame. That's what happens in theatres, right? You don't have subs appear on the wall underneath the movie in the cinema.

Wait, so the Aussie BD is wrong, too?

And so there is not as yet a correct version of the international cut?
