I'm glad the covers are reversible but I wish the slipcases could be made to be reversible too.

They're reversible in the sense that I'll see the outside of the box I stick them in until their value is high enough that I can sell them on Ebay.

I'm wondering about this too. If the mono track is the same one from the previous 2014 blu-ray, and the new Atmos mix uses the original sound effects and turns out to be better than the old 5.1 track, perhaps that will be preferable tot eh 2014 mono if that's what we're getting. I don't have a full Atmos setup but my receiver can handle it and downmix it to 5.1, so if it's balanced and includes all the original sound elements, it may be a better option than the anemic 2014 mono. I'd still prefer the laserdisc mono as an option.

More importantly, I pray all of these tracks are in sync and remain in sync for the duration of the films. Both the stereo and 5.1 tracks on Black Christmas (their latest fixed version) goes out of sync later in the film and stays out of sync for the rest of the film. Only the mono track stays in sync all the way through. The stereo track that was included was a downmix of the 5.1 which is why they're both out of sync.

I sent an email to Shout Factory on July 13th after the Halloween 4K UHD announcement was made and in the email I pointed out the issue with the heavily processed mono mix that was in the 2014 Bluray release. I actually got a reply back from them today and the response is vague to say the least, although I am appreciative that they replied back. It still means we are waiting for a review to see what the mono source is for the upcoming release.

It's already been confirmed by an insider on this thread that it's the same mono used in the 2007 disc and the boxed set. Which may not be ideal, but is just fine by me.

lol that's company speak for they aren't improving a damn thing and it's probably the same as before, granted I never heard the old mono mix so I probably won't notice anything abnormal. I was on the 5.1 mix for Day of the Dead for ages and never knew anything was wrong, just recently started listening to the lossy mono mix which I like more.

If this is the case then it is all but confirmed that Halloween (1978) has suffered the same fate that Halloween 4 did with the Crest/Anchor Bay mess up: The master tapes (both the original mono and multitracks) have been lost. It would mean the Criterion Mono Mix is now the definitive reference and something has prevented Shout Factory from being able to use that source for the 4K release. I honestly put this up there with the Universal Lot Fire of 2008 for an iconic piece of work having elements gone forever.

I'm sure there were some good ones. But the QC is poor on that model imo and many people including myself had many issues with it. Many got bad ones.

I don’t believe this to be the case. IIRC, Death Waltz records release of the H1 soundtrack from a few years back was sourced from the film’s analog m&e tracks.

Also, if that were the case, how would the new Atmos mix be created?

I thought this would finally be the ultimate release of Halloween. I haven't bought every release but I have bought it a few times over the years and I was hoping this would be the last time I'd need to. Yet here we are again with possibly/likely an inferior mono track. Of course I thought Black Christmas would be the last time I bought that but with the sync issues I'm hoping somebody else does it right. Thankfully at least the mono on that track is in sync. But it sounds pretty rough.
