192 Kbps Original Mono quality. I bought it Nov 23rd 2018 for 7.99 on Amazon, and I watch the BluRay Disc more than the 4K because of it.

The LPCM 5.1 @ 4.5 Mbps or so is filtered and updated compared to the Mono. The 4K disc has the 7.1 @ 5.0-5.5 Mbps track.

If you have a really cheap 4K tv or one with bad HDR (400.00) and cheap soundbar or tv's speakers (think tiny center/not full range) the 4K disc probably seems nicer on the ears with the updated folly and that LOL.

Dialog is actually clearer like in the Laserdisc maybe this is the Laserdiscs audio but I'm not sure the bitrate of the Laserdisc and don't have or want one LOL. Anyway that doesn't really matter.

If you pay attention you can hear Michael breathing in his mask as soon as he puts it on and before and after he murders his sister at the same volume levels, and you can hear her complain about her boyfriends cold hands easier as well before they head upstairs.

On the 7.1 this is tougher to hear because of the filtering, and you really only hear him breathing in the mask after he stabs her and comes downstairs. Now the effects seem louder lightning and other things, but they are not original so it's not needed and faked. It's little stuff but it's actually major because it all adds up once you start comparing them. SO don't and enjoy the crappy 4K disc LOL

Is there any chance they corrected the Mono for this disc? I can't imagine they would give Halloween 4 and 5 special audio treatment over the more important film.

Listening to this is super disappointing. Why would a Laserdisc have better audio than a modern blu-ray. Insane.

Shout Factory Customer Support have confirmed to a few people that inquired that the Halloween 4K release will be porting over the 2007/2014 filtered Mono track (the best audio resource available to them). We are most likely waiting for the 45th/50th Anniversary release(s) to possibly address this issue, unless of course the 35mm Mag Tape is lost/destroyed.

More often then not, they do fantastic work. Friday the 13th, Event Horizon, The Tenant, My Bloody Valentine, etc. When something does get “borked” they almost always offer a replacement disc, something Arrow and Kino Lorber rarely do.

He actually hasn’t posted anything since confirming the audio for H4 and 5 in those threads.

I feel Arrow rarely offer replacements because they don't commonly have screw-ups. The Donnie Darko fiasco was quickly remedied. The things they haven't fixed is unfortunate but does not touch how often Scream has screwed-up regardless if they've fixed anything. Scream gets praise where they deserve it but the stuff like Prince of Darkness and They Live's color gamut problem going ignored is a really wrong-way rubbing and I'd hold Arrow to the same standard if they were in those shoes.

Arrow has a history of denying there is a problem. Look at their many responses to framing issues. I’d also argue that they have the worst customer service of any of the boutique labels just from several experiences I’ve had with them. The recent Dune delay without an announcement was weird, too.

I’m not quite sure what the issue with POD and TL was since I own the StudioCanal discs, but did they ever issue a response? Maybe it was a source issue since the masters came from SC.

I'm not really here to play favorites but outside of those fumbles which deserve criticism, I cannot place it in the same space as Shout's steady stream of technical gaffes. You can be sure if the Donnie Darko, Demons, and Dune problems begin repeating themselves at Arrow I'll be one of the first to write a miffed post about it.

It's not a master problem, no. They were authored in the wrong color space which was compromised as a result. Shout never responded to inquiries unfortunately! There's a more technical explanation discussed at length in both threads.

Yes, that's a logistical problem. It's pretty clear the entire run of defective discs weren't pressed and shot out at once. That's why people still don't have theirs. I'm surprised they managed to get to it fast enough what with pandemic shenanigans afoot.

I don't understand any of this. If Scream got DVD audio for Halloween 4, then why can't they get the laserdisc audio for Halloween? Rip it, put it on the disc and call it a day. Is there something I am missing here?

The same reason most all of my 1980s rock/pop CDs have better audio than remasters made 20-30 years later, it is insane. When it comes to sound mastering if you do something right once you don't have to ever redo it, the sad thing is these companies are not doing it right and keep fumbling over and over not correcting mistakes. My Barry Diament Back in Black CD from the 80s is still the best sounding version of the album I've ever heard, no matter how many times they re-master it, the Queen albums are a similar story, as are Michael Jackson's albums, and many more.

LaserDisc might be a dated format but there is nothing dated about its basic sound capabilities imo.

Well if you purchase these will they get the Mono on the first 3 to your liking? Will they get the Ultra Stereo of 4 and 5 to your liking? I prefer the Mono from the 2007 Blu-Ray release and I watched 5 in the Theater with Ultra Stereo. Then they all have NEW Atmos tracks. Who are these for? Rhetorical. Screwball Youtubers I presume.

My 22 YO daughter loves NoES and Halloween but I won't even mention this SET (She just told me she worked 79 hours this last week) and is getting released soon, because how can you have faith and let them spend 300.00 on a set like this and then she doesn't even have an Atmos setup just a soundbar. I notice the extra commentary deleted Debrah Hills audio track ok nice (sarcastic she basically came up with the entire Plot...at least half or more imho Carpenter had final cut and used a lot of Hitchcock influence here) the 2007 has Debrah Hill, Mono in 192Kbps and 1080p picture that rivals the 2018 4K picture imho and isn't as dark so I see more on my Sony.

This SHOUT company could make a lot more profits (I could get her to buy it LMAO she worked 79 hours just this week she can buy it in a snap LOL) but you can't recommend these releases to friends/family because it's all a gamble as to what is truly going to be on there. Oh a 18x24 poster lmao with a slipcase. Passing... and if anything might test the waters with the first 1 on a BF sale and see how good or bad it is.

If everything is right this set should be definitive but when are they ever LOL it might could be!! Sigh... Charlie Brown....I doubt they will sell out of the 300.00 set but I question it's quality on disc. 5 pins...oh jesus really? HAHA whatever.
