There, fixed that for you.

Because of course, you have a perfect rendition in your mind of how it exactly looked in theaters back in '99?

And you're also 100% sure that Bill Pope is going to change the whole color scheme of this movie?

Even if he probably has access to the original IP or better: the actual answer print.

With UHD material they can always tweak the film to their liking. Remove green gels, add sepia filter and maybe some film scratches atop, so it look EXACTLY how they sort of remember.

The problem is that what most people think it looked like in 1999 isn't actually how it looked like in 1999. So when the UHD comes out and even if it is 100% correct and matched to an answer print, it will be deemed incorrect by the usual suspects on sites such as originaltrilogy and the like because it doesn't look like the 1999 DVD.

There's a reason this release will be supervised and approved by the DP and not by a bunch of idiots from originaltrilogy and fanres. Not implying that everyone from those sites are morons but the ones that lie about the original looks of films then try and flag videos and send death threats to users posting images and quotes proving that their dumb "preservations" are incorrect, definitely are.

They did the Trilogy during HD DVD's short lifespan. That was less than two years into the format. How long as UHD BD been on the market?

Earlier. Ultimate Collection DVD was released in 2004. They probably assembled it around 2003.

Assuming they already prepared the new masters for the sequels and maybe for Animatrix. UC masters were ready long before HD DVD and blu formats. Also supervised by the sisters and the DP.

The HD DVD / Blu-ray was the same master as the Ultimate DVD set, so all they had to do was make a format master.

4K UHD requires an all new transfer and they also did a new sound mix.

I hope they really use the heights to great effect in the movie; imagine the top two or three bullets that Neo dodges on the rooftop sailing hi overhead, and the subsequent side bullets moving through the surrounds.

That rooftop scene has so much potenial to be mind blowing again soundscape-wise!

Edit: And the helicopter scene on the other rooftop as well!

I remember renting this on VHS back in the day. I think I was eight or nine? Thanks for not caring about the rating, mom.

Probably more excited for this than any other UHD so far this year.

The first time I saw the The Matrix - it was a TV report about movies currently playing in theaters (I was 15 at that time, in '99) and there was that clip of Trinity running on the wall during the lobby scene and it was said The Matrix had groundbreaking FX and bla-bla-bla. I went and watched the film in a theater the following weekend.

After that, for the next 5 years, me and my friends were questioning reality around us.

They can't release them all? It would be like releasing The Dark Knight and not Batman Begins and Dark Knight Rises.

Warners is investing some money into a new 4k scan and Dolby Vision master of the OCN's supervised by the DP and an Atmos remix, so they're going to start with the most popular film in the series first. Unlike the Nolan Batmans, there was quite a falloff after the first film in popularity and other factors.

If this sells, the others may follow.

I'm about your age and I went to see The Matrix only because The Phantom Menace teaser was attached to it. I was living in Australia at the time and was quite busy with school etc. and I didn't really watch TV at all back then so I had no idea what The Matrix was about, I hadn't seen any trailers, pictures, articles, nuthin'. The only thing I recall was an online thing "What is the Matrix?" I think it was an ARG or something. Anyway, I saw The Phantom Menace trailer and stuck around for the main feature and man, I couldn't believe it, y'know, that they could make a movie like that, that they could do that (story, camera work, FX everything). Extraordinary.

Or maybe they're stumped on how to split up the bonus features. There's the Burly Man Chronicles documentary that covers both sequels, for example.

Maybe if they release the sequels it'll ONLY be in a boxset, so they're just getting the first movie out of the way then a bunch of people will double-dip on it to get the sequels.
